The Cost Accountant is responsible to maintain the Company’s cost accounting system in order to provide accurate, timely reporting of cost of sales, inventory valuation/control to support business operations and sound financial and operational decision making. The position will provide business analytical support to manufacturing, sales and other areas as needed.

As the Cost Accountant you will be involved in monthly closes for production, financial reporting and analysis, among other financial responsibilities. This person will be the hands-on person for the day to day activities of cost accounting and operations finance and reporting. The primary focus will be that of analysis, control, and reporting as they relate to the data that drives operations, the reporting of manufacturing variances, creating processes, and completing projects as requested. In addition to the base costing role, this position is also responsible for the financial support and reporting of monthly performance. Furthermore, this role will participate in servicing operations reporting, investigative and troubleshooting in our proprietary ERP system, and other accounting relief functions as may be assigned.


  • Responsible for performing month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing; including preparation of journal entries, analysis and presentation of financial statements.
  • Conduct balance sheet account reconciliations. Ensure any reconciling issues are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Conduct various analysis of inventory, shrinkage reserves; capitalized inventory variances, absorption and overhead analysis, etc.
  • Set up and monitor control procedures surrounding key costing files (Item Costs, Bills of Material, Routings)
  • Set up current cost roll-up and standard cost updates throughout the year and annually
  • Analyze manufacturing variances from standard cost and report on the impact of those variances (both projected and historical)
  • Responsible for all aspects of inventory (valuation, verification, obsolescence) and work closely with operations to better manage standard costs, product lines, margins, work in progress aged balances, reserves, cycle counts/physical inventory counts, materials in transit, warranty projects, labor/overhead rates and other adjustments.
  • Assist with development of desktop procedures and internal controls in areas of responsibilities.
  • Prepare cost reports and provide critical information in support of operational decisions.
  • Perform other functions and projects not specifically listed above but required by management directive to support Company goals.

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, in particular MS Excel
  • Experience with an ERP system in a Manufacturing environment is a plus***
  • Significant exposure to manufacturing variance reporting.
  • Sound understanding of bills of material, routings, and standard cost elements
  • Sound judgment, decision making, and analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well with others
  • Adaptable to change and willingness to learn and handle new or evolving assignments
  • Results oriented with an ability to work independently towards deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills using the English language (written and verbal)
  • Works well independently requiring minimal supervision
  • Takes ownership of responsibilities and demonstrates pride in their work
