INTAKE TRIAGE COORDINATOR

Position Description

This position is responsible for the operations of Behavioral Health member intake. Serve as an entry point to the Behavioral Health department for members who are experiencing mental health or substance use related needs. Responsible for management of member related telephone, fax, and electronic communications, as well as processing care management related inquiries from providers, physicians, and/or facilities. Collaborate with BH team, providers and members/responsible parties to support behavioral health care delivery. Participate in the coordination of crisis intervention as appropriate

• Serve as a first point of contact for member and provider, including but not limited to triaging, screening and assisting with meeting the member and provider needs, coordinating referrals and assist with in-network provider identification for behavioral health related services.

• Assist members with accessing Behavioral Health case management services through inbound/outbound telephonic engagement calls with members who meet criteria for behavioral health care management programs.

• Coordinate and complete screening referrals to the care management team if member opts to participate in care management programs.

• Receive and triage referrals from counties, providers, facilities or clinic staff. Conduct outbound calls to members and assist in linkage to behavioral health services as needed.

• Collaborate with care management or utilization review team to document, schedule and identify improvements in engagement/triage process related to: timelines, deliverables, resource allocation and problem-solving strategies to improve outcomes for members.

• Complete accurate, thorough and timely documentation in clinical documentation system. Meet productivity and quality measures established by the department.

• Understand, implement and support the Evidence of Coverage (EOC), Certificate of Coverage (COC), organization policies/protocols, authorization grid, department procedures and state and federal rules.

• Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education
Two year degree or vocational school with focus on health, social service, psychology or related coursework
Required Experience
Two years' experience in a health plan or health care industry in customer service, behavioral health intake, or crisis intervention setting. Knowledge of behavioral health community resources. Use and understanding of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10 coding, PC, Microsoft Office (with emphasis on Excel spreadsheets) and keyboard skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience working with state and federally funded program in an HMO or MCO utilization review environment highly desirable. Experience with sales and marking experience in a call center, health insurance, physician group practice, or community agency.
