A role with Enterprise Strategy Development means working directly with senior leaders across the organization to develop business and functional strategies-especially those in support of growth and competitive differentiation. Your work becomes Target's annual Strategic Priorities, which are shared across the company and inform the efforts of thousands of team members worldwide every day.

As a Principal Strategist, you will lead a team developing 3-5 year time-horizon growth initiatives for the company. This will combine your skills, experience, and talents as a part of a visionary and collegial team that combines traditional strategy consulting and innovative business design thinking. You will work on strategy consulting-like engagements in the core retail business that solve for potential roadblocks to growth and identify new ideas and opportunities for transforming the business. You will be expected to understand retail trends, competitors and guests to develop new concepts and formats that meet future needs in the ever- and fast-evolving, multi-channel retail landscape, both domestically and abroad. You'll also oversee and drive the execution of numerous strategy project by Project Managers and Analysts to ensure quality of design, problem solving, execution, synthesis, and communication of results. By managing relationships with executive leaders of areas such as merchandising, marketing, and guest insights, you'll drive strategic business decisions. Likewise, in collaboration with Strategy & Innovation leaders, you'll prioritize your team's resources and expand your team's knowledge base in one or more areas.

About You:
  • 4-year degree and advanced degree in business or related field
  • 3-5 years business experience, consulting experience preferred
  • Strong conceptualization skills and the ability to translate concepts into consumer research methodologies
  • Excellent listening and problem disaggregation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to tell compelling business and result stories
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and accurately
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate highly complex findings to focus on the critical issues and actionable opportunities
  • Strong strategic thinking skills in relation to retail or the packaged goods industry
  • Ability to effectively own complex projects that entail frequent interaction with senior executives
