Position Details

Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt 

Salary:  Starts at $20.00 - $26.00 per hour

Hours: Position requires daytime, evening and weekend hours. Primary hours include Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Location: Community Center

Reporting Relationship:  Reports to Recreation Supervisor-Ice Arena, Concessions & Park Rental Facilities

Community Center Division

The Community Center Division of the Park and Recreation department has the responsibility for managing the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior Skate Instructor instructs group, private and semi-private Learn to Skate classes at the Eden Prairie Community Center. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  1. Provides independent instruction in a variety of on ice Learn to Skate USA classes and levels.
  2. Ensures participant needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service.
  3. Monitors the well-being of all participants throughout the Learn to Skate program.
  4. Assumes a leadership role as a professional in the area of ice skating.
  5. Encourages participants to continue with learn to skate activities and other ice related opportunities.
  6. Ensures that a safe and healthy environment exists at all times.
  7. Instructors enforce all facility and program policies, rules and regulations.
  8. Assists in the set-up and tear-down of the Learn to Skate area.
  9. Arrives when scheduled, well prepared for assigned classes.

  While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements

Education:  US Figure Skating CER Category C compliance required. Must be a current member in good standing with US Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association. CPR (infant, child and adult) and First Aid certification within first 30 days of employment required and must keep their certification current each year. Must pass exam and obtain Learn to Skate USA membership within 30 days of employment.

Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience teaching group learn to skate classes required; some training is available. Experience teaching Learn to Skate USA classes preferred.

Technical Skills: Technical aptitude related to the following skills is required: ability to operate concession equipment and point of sale. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English; ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to skate proficiently required.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 lbs, bend/stand/reach.
