You will enable continuous innovation and drive business performance via testing and measurement (experimentation).

In this role you will have three key priorities - develop cutting edge scientific methods for testing and measurement of enterprise growth initiatives, drive adoption of scientific methods by partnering withanalysts andbusiness owners across the enterprise, and drive implementation of new methods on our high-throughput testing platform by partnering with internal data and technology teams.Your goal will be togrowtesting and its adoption within the Target ecosystem.

As a Director DS & Analytics- TestingCoE , you'll take the lead as you...

  • Build a team of experiment/testmethodology experts (statisticians, data scientists)

  • Partner closely with Experimentation/TestingPlatform team to guide and ensure the platform is designed and enhanced such that it accurately enables experimentation science and supports visualization and readout of experiments.
  • Collaborate with Analytics embedded data scientists, to ensure that as they support experiments in their domain, they use sound methodology, test setup and analysis.
  • Work with Product Engineering teams to develop experimentation learning plans to set up, maintain and optimize experiments. Recommend analytic approaches to address questions or validate hypotheses (especially in cases where there is no dedicated Analytics partner).
  • Establish and iterate on processes such as Experiment Review Committee to ensure solid and robust.
  • Establish and provide training on experimentation standard methodologies

  • Provide test requesters with testing methodology and frameworks to monitor tests over time
  • Develop advanced statistical and data science methods to drive lean and efficient testing practice at enterprise scale.
  • Partner with product and business teams to translate hard and abstract problems into well defined, quantifiable andmeasureableinitiatives.
  • Define key business metrics for running large scale experiments that deliver impactful results to the business.
  • Design experiments to evaluate the optimization of guest experience at Target agnostic of channel (online or in physical stores).

  • Lead the research and development of new experimentation methods and predictive modeling techniques that could sharpen or speed up decision making and move key metrics
  • Present your research, including metric development and measurement methodologies to all levels of the company, clearly and concisely
  • Serve as a strategic partner to define high impact analytical problems and find innovative ways to solve these problems via data, machine learning solutions and experimentation
  • Scale testing adoption around the business and analyst community across the Target ecosystem

About You:

  • PhD or MS in a quantitative discipline such as but not limited to statistics, applied mathematics, informatics, operations research, computer sciencewith10+ years of experience
  • The ideal candidate is passionate about experimentation, applied statistics, and data-informed decision making, while bringing substantial hands-on experience from past projects involving A/B testing or causal inference.
  • Have been deeply involved with A/B testing at scale including controlled experimentation, quasi-experimentation methods, adaptive experimentation technologies,post-stratification, quasi-experimental research designs&sequential testing
  • Experience with Bayesian techniques, Multi-armed bandit algorithm

  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for experimentation methods, data analysis, data-informed product innovation, building and shaping data culture
  • Have successfully hired and mentored top talent team members
  • Proficiency in a statistics tool like R, Pythonand Big Data tools (Hive, Spark)
  • Confident applying appropriate analysis methods of causal inference in both experimental and non-experimental situations
  • Excellentproblem solvingskills and end to end quantitative thinking

  • Outstanding communications skills with both technical and non-technicalcolleagues
  • Excellent relationship-building skills; ability to manage complex cross- functional relationships and establish strong partnerships
  • Exceptional presentation skills and ability to communicate methodologies, results clearly and concisely to company's top executives.Ability to tell stories with data, educate effectively, and instill confidence, motivatingstakeholders to act on recommendations
  • Understand the Product model and ability to work and lead an Agile team
  • Influential - able to engage and negotiate with business leaders and teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Hadoop ecosystem and data visualization tools (DOMO, Tableau,PowerBI) and automation tools
  • Strong analytical skills including model development, hypothesis design and testing, and the ability to teach analytical concepts to others
  • Experience leading projects involving complex BI requirements, a variety of business stakeholders, and a team of BI professionals with a variety of skills

  • Experience building data governance frameworks
  • Proven track record of learning new tools and technologies
  • Experience developing future leaders in a data rich environment
