Position Details

Status: Ongoing part-time position, non-exempt 

Hours: Typically 5 to 20 hours per week September through May; flexibility to work 30 to 40 hours per week June through August. Daytime and Evening hours are available 7 days a week.

Salary: Starts at $10.25 depending upon qualifications

Benefits: Potential for a membership to the Eden Prairie Community Center to access the fitness facility.

Location: Pool and beach locations in Eden Prairie

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Recreation Supervisor – Aquatics

 

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people for all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheater and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as the Oak Point Pool and tennis courts at CMS.

 

Position Responsibilities

The Lifeguard role is to supervise and promote safety in Eden Prairie pools and beaches. A lifeguard at the City of Eden Prairie is primarily responsible for the following areas of impact: 

  1. Assists the head guard in the supervision and operation of the beaches/pools to meet the needs of the community.
  2. Ensures a safe, clean and well-maintained facility.
  3. Enforces all beach/pool policies in a consistent, professional manner.
  4. Completes facility safety checks and reports.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

 

Position Requirements

Education: This position requires Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications.

Age Requirement: Must be 15 years of age

Physical Requirements: Ability to swim a minimum of 500 yards.    Ability to lift and move objects.  Candidates invited to an interview will be asked to complete and successfully pass the City’s evaluation of a skills assessment prior to a conditional job offer.

Hours: Must be available to work nights and weekends.

Travel Requirements: Must have the ability to travel to different locations during the assigned work shift.
