Water Safety Instructor Aide Position Details

 

Status:  Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Salary:  Starts at $10.00 per hour

Location: Pool locations in Eden Prairie

Hours: 4-20 hours per week, with flexibility to work 30 to 40 hours per week during the summer; may vary based on business need

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor – Aquatics

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people for all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheatre and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as the Oak Point Pool and tennis courts at CMS.

Position Responsibilities

The Water Safety Instructor Aide assists the lesson instructor in providing water safety and basic swimming skills to individuals of all ages. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  1. Assists the lesson instructor during lessons by monitoring and providing hands on assistance to all class participants; promotes water safety, assists in the development of swimming skills specified for class level

  2. Ensures a safe, friendly and enjoyable learning environment

  3. Adheres to all pool policies in a consistent, professional manner                                           

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements

Education: American Red Cross Water Safety Aide certification

Work Experience: Must be a minimum of 14 years of age; one to six months experience in a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to swim all strokes successfully in accordance with American Red Cross Guidelines, swim a minimum of 500 yards consecutively, and lift and move objects.  Candidates invited to an interview will be asked to complete and successfully pass the City’s evaluation of a skills assessment prior to a conditional job offer.

Travel Requirements: Must have the ability to travel to different locations during the assigned work shift.
