Position Summary

The McGlynn Information Technology Center at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Designer of Instruction & Technology. This experienced designer, developer, and educational technologist will support the St. Catherine academic community's instructional design and development needs and the digital systems used to deliver and enhance instruction. The incumbent will work closely with instructors teaching in all delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid and fully online) to implement effective digital learning strategies, online best practices, and a broad range of technological tools. This individual will also provide primary system administration for the school's learning management system and other academic technologies.

Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to design/develop active and engaging classroom, hybrid and/or fully online instruction that reflects best practices and meets student learning objectives.
• Apply learning principles and theories to the development of instruction.
• Plan and coordinate the development of online course components, including media resources, learning activities, and reusable learning objects.
• Consult with programs and departments in the process by which “Course Templates” and “Master Courses” are designed and developed.
• Assist faculty in conducting formative and summative evaluation of the program's courses.
• Become familiar with a peer course review process utilizing quality standards for hybrid and online courses.
• Stay up-to-date with the academic technologies toolset provided by the University. Assist in the adoption and integration of these tools.
• Provide instruction and support to faculty, staff, and students in how to use academic technology technologies in order to increase their comfort level and self-sufficiency.
• Create instructional resources and contribute to web content provided through the University's knowledge-base and online help system.
• Provide system administration of academic technology systems/tools, especially the school's learning management system, Brightspace D2L.
• Design, develop and deliver professional development offerings for faculty, staff and students on the use of academic technology tools and systems and the pedagogy underlying effective and engaging online instruction.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Instructional Systems Design, Educational Technology, Learning Technologies, Learning Sciences, Educational Psychology, Distance Education or a related field.
• At least two years professional experience designing instructional materials and online instruction, preferably in, but not limited to, a higher education environment.
• Strong background in curriculum development, instructional design concepts and principles, adult learning theory, needs assessment and distance learning best practices.
• Demonstrated creativity, skill and experience in designing instruction that engages students in active learning experiences.
• Experience using instructional technologies such as course management systems, rich media, online testing, lecture capture, video conferencing, web tools, and classroom-based tools such as high-tech projection systems and student response systems.
• Ability to coordinate technology troubleshooting and problem-solving in a highly technical and fast-paced environment that is focused on providing service to the University community.
• Dynamic training skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and oral presentation communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to consult effectively with faculty in higher education with a broad range of skills and experience with instructional technologies .
• Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:
• Master's degree.
• Three or more years of professional experience.
• Experience as a system administrator (client-side applications) for major instructional technology system(s).
• Awareness of Universal Design and accessibility standards in online instructional design.
• Experience with image and audio-editing software.
• Experience with project management and course development in a collaborative, team environment.
• Well-developed understanding of the coordination required between computers, servers, databases, networks, software, graphic design, and web programming to successfully provide high quality digital learning experiences and troubleshoot systems issues.
