Job Summary:

Coordinate and oversee the SMSC Public Safety Explorer program, communications between the department and the SMSC Community, and the AED donation program.  Responsible for performing front line firefighting.  Assists in the maintenance of the equipment and apparatus.

Job Duties:

1. Manage, coordinate and oversee the SMSC Public Safety Explorer program. 
2. Coordinate communications between the SMSC Public Safety department and the SMSC Community Members.  Assist the SMSC Marketing department with updates to social media sites.
3. Represents the Fire Department and SMSC Community at AED donation events.  Delivers AED's, meets recipients and presents information regarding the SMSC Community and the SMSC Public Safety department. 
4. Responds to emergencies.  Performs firefighting and emergency medical service tasks.  Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.  Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials and equipment.  Uses all required safety equipment.
5. Assists with routine service, maintenance and cleaning of apparatus and equipment.
6. Prepare reports and maintains records.  Performs administrative functions as required.
7. Assist with building inspections for compliance with applicable codes, and report findings, preparation of emergency incident pre-plans.
8. Cleans and maintains the stations, grounds and other equipment.

1. High school diploma or GED
2. SMSC Community Member
3. Possess a minimum qualification IFSAC certification as Firefighter II level or ability to obtain within two years.
4. Possess a minimum qualification certificate as EMT-B or ability to obtain within two years.
5. Experience with Haz-Mat operations or ability to obtain within two years.
6. Possess a valid State of Minnesota driver's license.
7. Must satisfactorily perform the department daily physical fitness requirements.
8. Must be able to lift 150 lbs
9. May be required to work in weather conditions and in extreme temperature below twenty degrees Fahrenheit and in excess of one hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
