Job Description: Job Summary:   Develop, implement and oversee all aspects of Community-focused sustainable agricultural services as well as compliance aspects of certain leased agricultural activities. Community focused-services may include various plant based production (vegetable, herbs, native edible plants, native medicinal plants), orchard activity, maple syrup production, livestock management and agriculture/native plant-based education. Coordinate distribution of the food produced. Oversee organic certification and food safety.   Budget/Asset Responsibilities:   Develop annual Community-focused agricultural services budget and work with manager to include this data in the overall department budget.   Job Duties:  
  1. Develop and implement a Community-based agricultural services. Development should be coordinated with other departments that also serve the Community's health and wellness needs. Implementation may include applying knowledge of several fields of organic agriculture from planning, planting/rearing, care, harvest, storage and distribution of produce, native plants, and livestock care.
  2. Manage agricultural operations including full time and part time seasonal staff, volunteers and youth workers. Interviews and hires employees. This includes training and development of employees, including performance management.
  3. Facilitate in the planning and implementation of agriculture/native-plant based education geared toward Community members, approved tour groups, and approved outside entities. Coordinate appropriate event strategy with other departments that serve the Community's nutritional needs.
  4. Developing and maintaining organic certification and food safety compliance including all related record keeping and documentation.
  5. Supervise food distribution, including Community-member focused outlets, Community food outlets (stores, food services, farm market), and outside wholesale accounts.
  6. Coordinate appropriate distribution with other departments that serve the Community's nutritional needs as well as financial interests
  7. Other duties as assigned. May include inspecting appropriate terms and conditions of agricultural license agreements, reporting findings to Land Manager.

Requirements:
  1. Combination of post-secondary education and/or experience to equal five years in agriculture in one or more of the Community designated area of agriculture service (native edible and medicinal plants, vegetables, herbs, orchard, sugarbushing, livestock management), to include organic farming experience.
  2. Experience in strategic planning related to agriculture.
  3. Knowledge of organic certification requirements.
  4. Experience with chemical preparation.
  5. Must be able to acquire a Minnesota non-commercial pesticide applicator license related to assigned areas of responsibility within 6 months of employment.
  6. Must be detail oriented and disciplined to perform routine tasks under adverse conditions.
  7. Ability to operate agricultural machinery and equipment and perform low-level routine maintenance.
  8. Valid driver's license required with a good driving record.
