Job Details
We are looking for a Credit and Collections Specialist who will work closely with both the Accounting and Sales teams to verify the credit worthiness of potential and existing customers, as well as perform collections duties to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (“DSO”) and keep it to minimum levels. They will also assist the Corporate Controller with cash receipt projections and keep abreast of any potential bad debt risks.
Responsibilities:
Conduct credit reference checks for potential new customers to ensure credit worthiness
Recommend credit limits for customers based on the company’s financial statements, open balances, average days to pay, credit reference checks, and any market data available
Analyze the ongoing credit worthiness of current customers by reconciling outstanding amounts, thus minimizing bad debt risk
Work with the Accounting and Sales teams to review payment processes (online portals, direct mail, email submission, etc.) to ensure smooth workflows and reduce barriers to receiving payment
Contact customers with outstanding balances via phone and email to verify receipt of invoices, resolve invoice disputes and payment discrepancies, thus expediting the collections process
Analyze aging reports frequently and communicate status of collections with the Accounting and Sales teams by preparing reports that detail customer payment status
Research accounts receivable on a daily/weekly basis to ensure all customers are paying according to the agreed upon payment terms
Communicate professionally with customers to help create payment plans when necessary to bring accounts up to current
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant credit and collections experience
High School diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree is a plus
Ability to create, maintain, and publish various reports, using spreadsheets and graphs/charts
High level of proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook
Excellent verbal and written communication; extensive customer service experience is a plus
Strong analytical ability and organizational skills, with great attention to detail
Energetic self-starter, with ability to work in fast-paced environment
Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision
