OVERVIEW

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in September 2020.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses housed in the Department of Mathematics. The standard teaching load for this position is three courses per semester.

The department offers bachelor's degree programs in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education, and offers rapidly growing interdisciplinary degree programs in statistics and actuarial science. Our actuarial science program is a nationally recognized Center of Actuarial Excellence, as designated by the Society of Actuaries. The 21-person mathematics faculty at the University of St. Thomas is active in a wide variety of research areas with an established record of engaging undergraduates both in and out of the classroom. The department is home to the Center for Applied Mathematics (CAM), an endowed center whose primary mission is to promote applied mathematics to undergraduate students. The CAM provides support, such as summer stipends and travel allowances, for faculty and undergraduates who collaborate on research projects in a variety of areas and is expanding efforts to establish connections with local industry and business. QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field, or alternatively, ABDs nearing completion of the Ph.D. will be considered, with the initial appointment to be made at the rank of instructor.

The department enjoys a strong collaborative culture with regards to teaching. We seek candidates who will actively contribute to this culture, with a commitment to excellence in teaching, which may include—but is not limited to—active, student-centered learning; inquiry; inclusive and culturally-sustaining pedagogies. Teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to our mathematical community in part by maintaining an active research agenda. All areas of research will be considered. We value candidates with experience in or potential for supervising undergraduate research. Interest in multidisciplinary research is an asset but not required.
