Hours: Standard business hours (8am-4:30pm), varies based on business need

Building Inspections DivisionThe Building Inspection Division ensures buildings are constructed safely and comply with the State of Minnesota and local building and fire codes. The Division reviews plans, conducts on-site inspections, issues permits, approves occupancy and inspects fire disaster scenes.
Position ResponsibilitiesThe Building Inspections Technician supports the Building Inspections Division in their building, heating, plumbing and other inspections on a wide range of construction projects for new and existing structures within the City, to ensure that work is done in accordance with the applicable state and city codes and regulations. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Supports the Building Inspections Division, as the first point of contact, by answering and responding to customer inquiries, in-person and over the phone, in a fast paced and high volume work environment.
- Analyzes general customer questions from residents, builders, and internal departments; coordinates an appropriate resolution by relaying appropriate information, connecting them to a specialist within the Building Inspections Division and/or redirecting to another area as appropriate.
- Coordinates the permit and inspection process by issuing permits, balancing daily receipts, scheduling inspections and conducting necessary follow-up; completes in-takes, reviews, and permit follow-ups; addresses issues appropriately.
- Handles administrative tasks and support Division projects by formatting reports, tracking data, organizing and maintaining department records, and coordinating inspections.

Position RequirementsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required. Associates degree or two-year technical degree in a related field preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum of three years of administrative office experience required (experience must be within the last five years); one to two years’ experience in Building Inspections preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) required; Advanced skills in Excel and Publisher preferred; Experience with Permits & Inspections Management System (PIMS) software preferred.
Physical Requirements: Physical effort is light for the majority of work with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently. High volume fast paced working environment where approximately 50% of the time there is pressure associated with the job brought about from simultaneously meeting multiple diverse customers' needs both on the phone and at the counter.
Working Conditions: Most work is performed in a normal office environment. Work is fast paced with frequent interruptions.
