As a Sr. Engineer in Compute Services - Kubernetes, you'll jump right in as you serve as a specialist in an internal engineering team that builds and supports Kubernetes platforms hosting world-class applications. You will help develop infrastructure architecture and participate in architectural changes to accelerate feature development and improve the quality, reliability and performance of compute services. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation on hardware and software projects. You can use your expertise in programming and apply your skills in driving system integration and automation. Use good problem-solving skills and help the team in triaging operational issues and strive for operation readiness.

Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Develop and implement using new languages and new techniques in the search for operational excellence and maximum uptime using current industry best practices. Participate in non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural, operational requirements and best practices met. Provide technical guidance and coach others to resolve complex technical issues. Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. About You:
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • 4-5 yrs total work experience, 3+ years of software development experience with full cycle implementation from requirements to production
  • Strong background and experience overall Infrastructure architecture, design, and implementation across server, compute, network, data center, and storage technologies
  • Effectively communicates with project team, partners, and stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving and thought partnership skills
  • Excited to work in a fast paced agile environment
  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise, Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education


Engineering Experience:
  • Experience Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Drone, Docker, Monitoring Tools (Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus, Thanos, etc.), Cloud storage, Kafka, Git, Chef, OpenStack, VMware, Terraform, Unit Testing frameworks
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in K8s environments by applying debugging and problem-solving techniques and partnering with product development teams
  • Good knowledge and experience in Multiplatform operating systems with an emphasis in Linux (RHEL/CentOS 6/7 and Windows or any other Linux variant)
  • Experience with coding languages to drive system integration and automation (preferred Python, GoLang &/or Ruby) or other corresponding automation/code technologies that can be used to build automated infrastructure services
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet, Salt), Exposure to image based deployment
  • Experience working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)
  • Experience with integrating and programming APIs
  • Track record of providing thought-leadership within team to promote best practices for cloud native development and contribute to organizational knowledge bases to simplify cloud development with tools such as Heat Templates and Terraform
  • Experience with server virtualization technologies (RHEV, VMware)
  • Experienced in Infrastructure as Code practices and in applying test driven development practices to infrastructure
