A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Are you a design expert who can support your business by staying one step ahead of industry trends? Can you demonstrate the utmost attention to detail and create products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their design and quality for the price? Then you'll have success on our Design team who owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel and accessories to home goods and beauty. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you'll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, enterprise strategies, price points and overall creative direction.

As an Associate Designer, you'll support the development of Owned Brand products that achieve the design strategy and merchant objectives. Under the direction of the Design Director & Senior Designer, you'll work on an assigned category, brand, business and guest segment following the development process and calendar. You'll be expected to maintain a diligent approach to workload including timely communication with internal and external partners. You'll support the end-to-end design vision through a products life cycle including trend, color, product & guest research, material, curation and/or creation of silhouettes by category, vendor communication, prototyping/production and high level technical analysis.

• Curate, collaborate and co-design handbags, belts, hats & soft accessories utilizing CADs/sketches/virtual software
• Collaborate with design, merchant, sourcing & vendor partners to ensure product designs are manufacturable and meets set price-points.
• Use artistic ability to edit or make changes to original designs that integrates key feedback and attains Merchant buy-in
• Develop and share a clear point-of-view for products based on the brand principles and concept vision - utilizing design partners, trend resources, market intel, guest data and sales history in partnership with the design director & sr. designer
• Identify recurring patterns and translate inspiration into a saleable trend using multiple sources of media (competitive shopping, runway shows, pop culture, etc.) and creative intuition
• Communicate regularly with vendor partners to inform them on product changes and/or work through costing challenges
• Utilize systems similar to PLM to manage product communication & track samples
• Support product approvals & own color/textile approvals as needed
• Support & periodically lead guest insights research & events to inform on design & technical initiatives
• Maintain diligent adherence to process, calendar & deadlines
• Attend development meetings as appropriate. Must use judgment/discretion to make decisions on product direction and changes or escalate appropriately
• Core role will support Wild Fable handbags, hats, belts & soft accessories with the opportunity to expand & learn additional categories and/or brands over time

Requirements
• 4-year Degree in design, textiles, fine art or related degree
• 1-3 years of experience in product design; handbag and accessories experience preferred
• Technical skills: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop), Microsoft Office + Outlook, CLO or alternative 3D/virtual software programs preferred
• Motivated self-starter with attention to detail & a high level of accountability
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
• Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to build creative brand and guest focused visual presentations
• Positive & collaborative working style
• Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills
• Genuine interest and passion for exploring circular & sustainable design practices
