About This Opportunity:

You are a software developer with an entrepreneurial streak. You will build great products - ready to do whatever it takes to build initial MVP prototypes and then design for the necessary scale to support Proof Of Concepts (POC's) for our team members and Guests. You have good problem solving skills. You love keeping abreast of the latest industry trends and use them to help you innovate. You have leadership qualities, good judgment, clear communication skills.

  • Research, evaluate and provide objective feedback on technologies
  • Innovate constantly and maintain the technical edge requirements
  • Produce clear and concise technical deliverables for internal and external use
  • Develop fully functional prototypes to objectively test against hypotheses

About you:
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation
  • Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities, and key competitors' products and differentiating features
  • Demonstrates broad and deep expertise in multiple computer languages and frameworks (e.g., open source). Designs, develops, and approves end-to-end functionality of a product line, platform, or infrastructure
  • Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders
  • Demonstrates expertise in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance, and operational health
  • Must be comfortable presenting to key stakeholders, including executive leadership
  • Understands and develops solutions to foster data lifecycle management
  • Maintains deep technical knowledge within areas of expertise
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
  • Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems


Desired proficiency with at least 2 of the following technologies:
  • JVM Framework (SpringBoot, Micronaut, Ratpack)
  • JVM Language (Groovy/Kotlin)
  • Computer vision and machine learning background
  • Web Development Languages (Javascript, node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby, GoLang)
  • Swift/iOS
  • Android (Kotlin/Java)


Desired experience:
  • Previous Target and/or retail experience
  • Experience with OpenCV and other image processing libraries
  • Container Orchestration Tools (k8s, Docker Swarm, Docker Compose, Rancher, Apache Mesos)
  • Cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Devops (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Pallet)
  • Rust
  • Experience integrating with and using other third party frameworks tools and SDKs
  • Experience with authenticated sessions using OAuth and authentication tokens
  • Experience with design/development/use of analytics and tracking solutions (e.g., Signal, Flurry, Google Analytics)
  • Experience developing interactive user interfaces utilizing HTML5, JavaScript & CSS
  • Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems
  • Experience with Arduino, Pi0, Pi3, and various hardware required for prototyping
  • Familiariarity with Raspbian and other IOT systems
