SYSTEM ENGINEER - STORAGE AND VIRTUAL MACHINES

Position Description

This position is responsible to ensure effective and efficient infrastructure system functionality, including all data center, data closet, and desktop systems and peripherals. Work proactively and reactively to resolve infrastructure system issues in an efficient, timely, and effective manner, to maximize business productivity and minimize business downtime. Collaborate with the Technical Services Associate Director and business teams to understand business needs and create forward thinking business solutions. Participate in environment design sessions and enterprise Committees as appropriate.

• Research, recommend and implement infrastructure system needs in a proactive, timely and efficient manner.

• Recommend, assist and lead infrastructure system upgrades, including after hours maintenance. Coordinate and perform switch, router and server installs and upgrades.

• Review changes and enhancements to infrastructure systems and make recommendations related to deploying enhancements to UCare's environment.

• Monitor infrastructure systems to maintain consistent system health and identify and address issues efficiently and effectively.

• Assist with implementing Data Center infrastructure technology improvements

• Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery processes for the infrastructure systems.

• Participate in on-call support rotation.

• Assist the Service Desk in providing end user support as needed.

• Coordinate and assist in the maintenance and development of infrastructure system documentation.

• Cross train other System Engineers on support of the infrastructure systems. Mentor System Engineers and Service Desk staff to assist technical and business skills.

• Collaborate with Technical Services Manager on future direction for UCare's infrastructure.

• Stay abreast of current technology trends, especially as they relate to health insurance and health care delivery.

• Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines.

• Collaborate with other members of the IT department to assist in resolving problems with infrastructure products or company hardware systems.

• Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred; demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree. NetApp Certified Data Administrator Certification is desired.

Required Experience

Five years of supporting and maintaining Storage Technologies like NetApp (FAS8200, AFF700, Cisco and Brocade SAN Switches). This includes Storage configuration, configuring SAN zones, merging SAN fabrics. Experience supporting and administering VMware environments with expertise in NetApp's FlexPod technology. Experience in Windows and Unix server environments. Software and hardware troubleshooting experience and knowledge of applicable security and data privacy practices and laws. Administering and Troubleshooting knowledge of Backup Products like (Avamar, DataDomain, ECS) Avamar and understanding of other backup products in general like (Rubrik/Cohesity). Experience with NetApp Data ONTAP Cluster Mode operating system. Experience of storage replication and mirroring, like Data ONTAP, Applications technologies (Snapmirror, SnapVault, SnapRestore, and SnapDrive). Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery methodologies. Demonstrated capacity planning and performance analysis capabilities. Experience with SAN implementations and related technologies such as ISCSI, FC, CIFS, and NFS protocols and disk management concepts such as RAID groups, aggregates and LUNs. Experience on Microsoft Azure Cloud Solution and Integration of on-premise devices to public cloud.

Preferred Experience

Experience supporting Cisco, Brocade SAN switches, NetApp (FAS8200, AFF700) Solid Fire Storage Technologies, Avamar, Data Domain, ECS, Cisco LAN/WAN Networking, Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Cloud Solution, ITIL experience.
