Executive Development Principal Consultant

As a Principal Consultant on the Executive Development team, you are responsible for the strategy to develop officers (including Leadership Team) and their teams to increase the quality and availability of senior leadership talent. You will design and deliver executive development initiatives informed by deep expertise on executive development, organizational change, and officer assessment data (quantitative and qualitative). You will manage strategic vendor partnerships that are essential to deliver best in class initiatives. You will innovate solutions, initiatives, and delivery methods to adapt to the needs of our officers and their leadership based on the organization's strategic direction. This is an individual contributor, senior practitioner role that requires close partnership with senior leaders and other leadership development professionals.

In this role, you will develop strong working relationships with officers that encourage candor about leadership and business challenges. You will develop coaching and mentoring relationships with consultants across executive development and leader development to enhance their capabilities. You will develop effective partnerships with key vendors.

Core responsibilities include:

Design and deliver leader development products and programs in support of delivering a best in class curriculum for Target:

  • You will utilize proven methodologies for performing needs assessments, consulting with senior leaders, analyzing data, designing curriculum, and developing complex offerings appropriate for senior leaders in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • You will facilitate and integrate a wide variety of Executive Development solutions across the enterprise, focusing on officers and their teams.
  • You will coach, mentor, and collaborate with other internal leadership development practitioners, providing subject matter expertise in areas of content specialties including leading organizational change.
  • You will leverage multiple disciplines such as surveys, assessments, employment brand, leadership and functional skills training. You will partner with these teams in order to provide a total leadership development solution for clients.


Accelerate business growth through developing leaders' capability:

  • You will maximize cross functional relationships and leverage the strengths of different areas to serve client needs. (HR, L&D, Talent Management, Business Intelligence, Business Leaders, etc.) You'll act as a business owner to bring these different groups together to create effective products to support executive development on the job and in formal learning.
  • You will leverage expertise and experience in executive development and marry adult learning theory/research with the practical business needs of the organization.
  • You'll measure and assess the impact of leadership development initiatives and leverage data and insights to continuously enhance offerings to meet the changing needs of the business.


About you:
  • Four year degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development or related field
  • Masters or Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Masters of Business Administration or Human Resources Development required
  • 8+ years of work experience in an HR area (management and leadership development, organization development, group facilitation, training and training design, etc.)
  • Experience managing and working with vendors in executive development and leadership development
  • Established network of leadership development experts across a variety of industries, organizations, and countries
  • Strong consulting background and client service skills
  • Experience leading a team required
  • Certifications and experience with assessment for development
  • Experience in leadership curriculum development
  • Experience in a business environment with the practical application of key leadership development, organization development and adult learning theories and models
  • Project management skills including planning work, managing details, keeping multiple tasks/projects on track, using time well, and doing whatever it takes to deliver outstanding results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate and present in both large and small group settings
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, influencing without formal authority
