JOIN TARGET AI AS LEAD AI SCIENTIST - OPERATIONS PLANNING (SUPPLY CHAIN)

Join the Target AI - Operations Planning team where we develop discrete event simulations of our supply chain. Our mission is to leverage simulation in order to generate forecasts and insightful scenarios that help Target make intelligent and pragmatic supply chain business decisions at scale. This involves writing high-performant, scalable code as well as designing analytical solutions that extracting insights from the generated data.

In this role in Target AI as a Lead AI Scientist you'll:
  • Work closely with partner AI Scientists to review and iterate on optimization and machine learning algorithms and develop state of the art mathematical models
  • Work with engineers to design, deploy and simulations at scale. Our simulations run many times a day, for millions of combinations of stock keeping units and distribution networks.
  • Work with business partners to learn about retail business and processes in play
  • Think about and resolve tradeoffs between simulation granularity and features on the one hand, and performance on the other
  • Improve the general performance, reliability and usability of our codebase.
  • Improve engineering standards, tooling and processes
  • Mentor other AI Scientist and ML Engineers in deeply reviewing code.


What we're looking for:
  • You have a real passion and the technical skills for helping Target make data-informed decisions
  • You love rock-solid, well-structured and efficient code
  • You possess strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, and information retrieval
  • You are a strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to the business and other data scientists/engineers is no problem for you
  • You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability
  • You understand that simplicity is hard but key to achieving maintainability and being able to continually deliver value to the business
  • You have usability and convenience for business users in mind
  • Constant learner who keeps up to date on the latest in Operations Research and AI


Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and deploying code for production that has business impact or equivalent work experience
  • Highly proficient in one or more of Rust, Haskell, Scala, C++, or equivalent programming languages
  • Expertise in linear algebra, statistics, information theory or related mathematical domains, deep understanding of statistical applications (experimentation, regression, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


PreferredRequirements
  • MS or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science or equivalent work experience in quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience writing modular and highly performant Rust code
  • Proficient in application/software architecture (definition, business process modeling, etc.)
  • Experience writing production datasets in SQL/Hive or building internal/production data tools for research or experimentation in a scripting language like Python
