FINANCIAL ANALYST
The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks a Financial Analyst to join the Office’s Residential Utilities Division, which advocates for residential and small business utility consumers in public utility rate cases and other matters that impact utilities’ operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to join a highly committed team that makes a difference in the lives of Minnesota residents.
Job Duties:
This position provides expert analysis, recommendations, and guidance to serve the mission of advocating for residential and small business customers. Professionals engage in technical analysis on utility rate setting, evaluations of service models, cost of capital, and statistical forecasts. This position also provides analysis and research on emerging areas in the energy sector, including resource and distribution planning, advanced rate structures, performance metrics, renewable energy and storage integration, and rate structures. The Office handles matters involving all sectors of public utilities, including electricity, natural gas, and telecommunications.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree(s) in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, public policy, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge or interest in energy policy.
- Demonstrated writing skills with technical analysis and public presentation skills.
- Commitment to mission of public service.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree(s) in economics, finance, or public policy;
- Past experience in the energy or telecommunications industry, other regulated industries, or complex forecasting and modeling.
In addition to the requirements noted above applicants should be committed to public service on behalf of all Minnesotans; have demonstrable communication skills, good work ethic, character and judgment, and a strong professional drive.
