The Senior Accountant prepares financial reports, analyzes variances, and supplies management with timely and relevant financial analysis as requested. Assists in the preparation of budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of audit work papers. The Senior Accountant is responsible for analysis of monthly activity and trends to support the operating business plans. Review, research and explain variances to budget and forecasts utilizing complex financial models. The Senior Accountant works with finance team members at the manufacturing sites, sales subsidiaries, and Corporate functional areas in these duties. Support special projects and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
  • Maintains and updates general ledger accounts in appropriate financial systems.
  • Prepare, review and post journal entries and system generated transactions for accuracy, as necessary.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements in timeline outlined by Corporate Accounting.
  • Analyze variances and provide insights into financial activity to management.
  • Provide identified management teams with accurate and timely financial analysis including scenarios, options, recommendations, etc, where needed.
  • Prepare and/or review various balance sheet reconciliations ensuring activity is accurate and reconciling items are cleaned up timely.
  • Generate continuous improvement ideas to reduce complexity, improve accuracy, save time and cost.
  • Develops financial models to support the underlying business activity.
  • Serve as liaison to a variety of team members to answer questions about charges, proper places to charge, best practices, etc.
  • Maintain documentation on processes.
  • Perform accounting research as requested for new transactions or for new accounting pronouncements.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for items designated to this position.
  • Compile information for budgets and forecasts from other areas and roll up the monthly budget and forecast financial statements.
  • Provide insight into budget and forecast variances.
  • Prepare interim and year end audit work papers.
  • Complete year end close process in timeline outlined with no material adjustments.
  • Supports and ensures adequate internal accounting controls are in place as well as policies and procedures are established and followed.
  • Partner with team members to drive overall business improvements.
  • Complete ad-hoc business performance reporting.
  • Analyze the trends of Key Performance Indicators (KPI), especially relating to financial metrics such as sales, expenditures, and profit margin.
  • Special projects as assigned.

  • Qualifications of the Senior Accountant: BS/BA in Accounting or related field with 3-6 years’ experience preferred. CPA/CMA preferred.
    Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) and willing to develop proficiency in other applicable accounting and operating systems.
    Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks in an environment of constant interruptions and be able prioritize responsibilities.
