Position Essential Functions:
Participation in weekly employee payroll processing and reporting (all payroll processing functions mentioned are potential, future elements of this position)
Ensure that governmental payroll reporting requirements are met (including Federal & State monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns).
All other tasks deemed necessary for the position holder to effectively administer their assigned functions
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Meets payroll operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
Develop best practices to improve efficiency of payroll processes.
Provide assistance to payroll staffs and conduct performance evaluations.
Coordinate with HR and finance teams to carry out payroll processing.
Assist in audit operations and implement audit recommendations.
Accounting work experience and a general understanding of accounting principles
Demonstrated, progressive levels of responsibilities within an organization
An ability to lead and work with others to reach objectives
Excellent computer and computer application skills
Experience in payroll processing
Ability to work with other functional areas of an organization
Good “soft skills” (i.e. communication, intuitiveness, patience, etc.)
Candidate Preferred Qualifications (not required but preferred):
Intellectual curiosity and a desire to grow capabilities within a given position
Familiarity with database concepts and data management principles
Experience with enterprise-level payroll processing platforms, such as ADP, Paylocity, PayChex, etc.
General understanding of the California payroll processing laws and the related environment (i.e. regular time vs overtime vs double time, exempt vs non-exempt status, general HR law, common employer employment practices, etc.)
Union payroll processing experience
Above average skills with common computer applications such as Word and Excel
Certified payroll experience desired
Union payroll experience desired
