Job Description Job Summary:   Oversees the SMSC Child Welfare and Family Advocate Programs. Supervises staff in its delivery of services to Tribal families and individuals. Receive and assign staff to investigate reports of suspected child abuse and neglect involving Tribal children. Actively promotes awareness of the services of the SMSC Family and Children Services.   Job Duties:   Supervise and assist staff to oversee disposition of Tribal Children pursuant to Child Welfare proceedings in the Domestic Relations Code. Offer family support and make active efforts to meet necessary or desired services. Provide weekly staffing to review and assess each open child welfare case, including voluntary cases and active investigations.

Develop programs, maintain inter and intra-agency contact via interdepartmental staffing. Develop and maintain working relationships with County Social Services, ICWA Boards and other county programs relative to social services. Develop policy and procedures for the department and review and revise document as the need arises. Prepare and manage the department budget within set allocation. Prepare monthly billing.

Oversee Family Advocate staff as it pertains to Community Member initiatives, Emergency Assistance and Holiday Meals.

Oversee the administration of the Child Care Grant, Johnson O'Malley Grant, and any other miscellaneous grants. Explain child welfare laws, mandated reporting and child protective services to clients and to the different departments within the community. Direct the activities of the SMSC Family and Children Services staff and provide for their ongoing professional development. Oversee the administrative requirements of the SMSC Family and Children Services, including track and report on designated metrics, maintain professional licenses and ongoing professional education requirements (CEUs), conduct performance reviews. Interviews, selects, hires, and promotes employees. This includes training and development. Completes performance appraisals on direct reports. Motivates, develops, and directs employees. Days Monday - Friday Hiring Rate or Hiring Range 1. Based on Qualifications Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in social work or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  2. Seven or more years of experience in social work, experience as a supervisor, child protection investigation and on-going child protective services.
  3. Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare, Native American resources and Dakota culture preferred
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
  5. Valid driver's license with good driving record.
