The mission of the Small Format and Localization team in Merchandising is to drive growth for Target by creating and scaling locally relevant merchandising solutions. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the enterprise localization strategy. The team is responsible for everything from ensuring stores have apparel that is climate appropriate to developing a Multicultural Beauty strategy to curating locally relevant Small Format store merchandising.

Position Overview

The Director of Climate & Tourism will lead a team responsible for scaling and operationalizing Climate and Tourism merchandising localization for Target. Core responsibilities will include:
  • Leading synthesis of guest insights, industry trends, store level market influence and category sales data to serve as the foundation for localizing through assortment segmentation
  • Assessing and partnering in the development of the capabilities needed to scale and sustain Climate segmentation
  • Leading, motivating, coaching and inspiring a team of buyers. Supporting their development and career planning, and removing roadblocks to them achieve broad scope goals


Additional responsibilities include:
  • Providing thought leadership on strategy and solution development to drive guest loyalty and improve financial performance with Climate segmentation
    • Developing high level guardrails for space and assortment evolution, including new & remodel stores
    • Developing and maintaining pyramid financial plan and KPIs in partnership with VPs and SVPs
  • Partnering with senior leaders and finance to align Climate segmentation needs including stores and categories that are relevant for unique assortments
  • Coordinating across stakeholders; aiding in communication flow with core Merchant, Planning & Inventory leaders and with Store field teams to ensure strong, consistent and sustainable execution
  • Developing an Enterprise Tourism merchandising strategy that will capture the unique needs of our Guest when shopping our stores while traveling and away from their primary residence.
  • Leading broad cross functional teams to align on scope, team roles and responsibilities in an effort to develop short and long term capabilities to operationalize localization at Target to maximize sales potential and address increased complexity
  • Partnering with the Stores organization on segmentation and localization needs
  • Incubating test & learn culture to quickly test ideas and adjust; align short and long term goals to capitalize on this approach

About You:
  • Four-year degree
  • 8 + Years Merchant and/or localization experience
  • Experience driving a large enterprise-wide strategic initiative
  • Experience leading teams is desirable
