The Counseling Center at St. Catherine University invites applications for a temporary Mental Health Counselor position as a Multicultural Specialist. We expect to have 5-20 hours of work per week available on a regular basis.

Our Counseling Center provides counseling services to students from a variety of cultural and faith backgrounds. Approximately 30% of our students identify as diverse, 19% speak a language other than English and nearly 60% of our students identify as having a faith other than Catholicism. We are deeply committed to developing a diverse staff and a welcoming, emotionally safe place in which each student can be seen and valued in their entirety, including intersecting identities and cultural backgrounds. This includes being attuned and responsive to the way in which students may be affected by current social-political circumstances and historical marginalization. This role has a special focus on underrepresented students such as students of color, first generation students, international students, and/or students who identify as LGBTQ+.

  • Provide individual and group therapy services to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Understand the impact that inequality, prejudice, and marginalization can have on students from underrepresented populations and, using therapy, consultation and outreach, help address and diminish this impact on our students.
  • Complete initial psychological assessments, conduct crisis assessment and interventions, and facilitate group workshops
  • Consult with the campus community surrounding mental health concerns, psycho-educational presentations, and other outreach activities
  • Delivery of counseling and psychological services using contemporary practices
  • Working directly with underserved student populations such as Hispanic, Black American, African, Hmong and those who identify as LGBTQIA+
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing to a wide variety of constituents, including parents, faculty, administrators, and personnel from the medical, psychological and psychiatric field.
  • Work will be performed in an on online format for Fall 2020 and either a hybrid or online format in Spring 2021.
