CommonBond Communities invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time Volunteer Manager position at the Central Office in Saint Paul, MN.

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for leading the effective management of new and existing volunteer relationships for CommonBond.  The manager oversees volunteer recruitment, application processes, volunteer training, ongoing communication and recognition, and assuring accurate database management. This position would be ideal for a learner who is motivated to take on new challenges.



1. Leads effort to recruit and manage program volunteers

  • Leads volunteer recruitment and placement efforts to ensure volunteer program needs are met, including within communities that represent the demographics of CommonBond residents
  • Ensure excellent customer service with the screening and training of volunteers during the on-boarding process.
  • Partner with site staff to assess and fill volunteer needs at various sites.
  • Ensure volunteers are successfully onboarded to volunteer positions.

    2. Recruits and coordinates other volunteer needs through the organization

  • Work in collaboration with other CommonBond department staff to recruit appropriate volunteers for Community Action Boards and fundraising events.
  • Assess and implement other areas of volunteer needs including but not limited to episodic volunteers and advocacy volunteers.
  • Partner with other resource development staff on the direct soliciting of volunteer and prospecting of volunteers as major gift donors.

    3. Volunteer Services Administration.

  • Assess and make recommendations on the volunteer database.
  • Respond to all requests for data regarding volunteer programs in order to comply with city, state, and federal and organizational reporting needs such as diversity, quarterly and year end reports.
  • Establish and implement volunteer policies and procedures in compliance with all corporate/state/government rules and regulations and best practices.

    4. Facilitate ongoing communication with volunteers.

  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with volunteers.
  • Write regular communications that may include letters and email newsletters.
  • Collect ongoing formal and informal feedback from volunteers on their experience with CommonBond. Develop improvement action plans based on feedback.


    1.  Demonstrated experience working within diverse communities, which include people of various ages, gender, sexual orientations, national origins, income levels, ability levels, religious affiliations, races, and languages.
    2. Three years of volunteer management or relevant experience.
    3. Ability to network and develop community-based relationships.
    4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    5. Associates degree or experience in a related field.
    6. Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment with both internal and external partners.
    7. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and web-based programs.



    • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 20 lbs.
    • Ability to file documents.
    • Ability to enter data into a computer.
    • Ability to interact verbally with internal and external audiences.



    • Must be willing and able to travel between sites.
    • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
    • Must be willing to carry a cell phone.
