Building Inspections Director

Salary Range: $96,485 - $120,606

The City of Grand Forks is searching for a Building Inspections Director that will exemplify superior management, financial and leadership skills and abilities as well as possess extensive experience in problem solving, public presentations, and collaborative efforts.

The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of fire policy, rules and procedure development, case law, and recognized best practices. The applicant must uphold high professional standards, have demonstrated proficiency in fiscal management and have the proven leadership and management skills to build a strong leadership team and a highly trained, empowered, and diverse workforce. 

The City of Grand Forks functions with a Mayor/Council form of government. Its governing body is the City Council which consists of seven members elected by wards and a Mayor who is elected at-large. The Mayor appoints a Building Inspector Director as the City’s principal responsible for interpreting code and ordinance rules and regulations and planning organizing, and overseeing the inspection of new buildings and existing buildings for public safety purposes to comply with such rules. The Building Inspector Director will also coordinate activities with other City departments and outside agencies. 

The Inspections Department has approximately 12 full-time employees.

Requirements include the equivalent of six years’ experience of an increasingly responsible role in building construction, system design or inspection experience, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.  Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with major course work in engineering, architecture, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will clearly possess and apply superior management, financial and leadership knowledge as well as skill, ability, commitment, and energy as needed to achieve the City’s goals. The position requires an exceptional communicator with the ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships with the Mayor, Council, department heads, employees and the community.

Starting salary range $96,485 – $120,606 DOQs and an excellent benefit package
