In addition, the ideal candidate is a team player, willing to work with a variety of colleagues and clients to complete litigation tasks.  Qualified applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a litigation setting as a paralegal and a Certificate in paralegal studies (or an equivalent).  Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in paralegal or legal studies. Experience and knowledge of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, as well as experience with E-Discovery software (such as Relativity) is also preferred.

Responsibilities.  The Office represents the State of Minnesota and its agencies on important constitutional, statutory, and common-law matters.  Our paralegals perform meaningful and challenging work that makes a difference in the lives of Minnesotans.  Paralegals in the ETP division will work on a wide variety of cases, including employment discrimination, defamation, personal injury, other torts, as well as Section 1983 lawsuits alleging the violation of constitutional rights.  ETP also handles several case-types with state-wide importance, including the defense of Minnesota statutes and executive orders against various legal challenges.  Paralegals work as an integral part of litigation teams, drafting litigation holds and indemnification paperwork, summarizing deposition transcripts and other important records, performing legislative history and jury verdict research, and are extensively involved with the discovery process and as part of the trial team.  Paralegals obtain, review, and redact documents for production, and aid in preparing evidence for depositions, motion practice, and trials.
