In this role, as part of the Product team, the Lead Automation Integration Engineer will be instrumental in the design and development of the next generation material flow strategies for Target. This role will lead the successful deployment and launch of automation supply chain technologies and processes. This individual must have exceptional problem solving skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams. The position requires software and integration skills to lead strategy and implementation of automation integration and interfaces, user interface deliverables and material handling middleware capabilities. This individual must be capable in the integration and launch of complex automated solutions at scale. These solutions will involve many types of automation including robotics, sortation and conveyance, controls integration, vision systems, and process development and optimization. Target is looking for an individual that is a self-starter who can work independently and provide a level of creative and innovative thinking that is essential to the supply chain design process. This position will be based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and will report to the Director of Product for the Global Supply Chain and Logistics organization.

What you will do:
  • Develop material handling improvement initiatives, create roll-out strategies, & deploy them across an enterprise scale
  • Concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, and collaboration with 3rd parties and internal teams on controls solution system build and integration testing
  • Design, develop, and implement automation software and data solutions for improving material flows in addition to long term lifecycle planning
  • Support advanced trouble-shooting and improvement of existing material flow systems
  • Architect database and reporting functions in accordance with the design documents in order to meet functional requirements


About you:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, distribution and logistics experience desirable
  • Experience in material handling equipment integration and/or relevant technical field
  • Experience in the testing and integration of multi-million dollar, complex capital equipment systems
  • Experience with Ignition Software or SCADA preferred
  • Knowledge of software control configuration and programming in accordance with design specifications in order to meet or establish compliance with functional requirements
  • Experience with control strategies and software logic, programming and configuration capabilities with interfacing software systems
  • Experience in architecting database and reporting functions in accordance with the design documents in order to meet functional requirements
  • Testing and simulation techniques, functional requirements of system/equipment to be automated, writing and executing test plans with documentation of results
  • Experience with material flow strategies, material handling and dynamic manufacturing/supply chain systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple ambiguous projects at the same time with a moderate degree of variation and uncertainty.
  • Experience developing improvement initiatives, creating roll-out strategies, & deploying them across an enterprise scale organization
  • Ability to travel 25% globally to interact with internal and external business and technical partners
