Salary Range:  $71,989 to $92,435 (depending upon qualifications)

Location: City Center

Hours:  Standard business hours (8am-4:30pm), may vary based on business need

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Assistant City Engineer

Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is comprised of Engineering, Water Treatment Plant, Utility Field Operations, Street Maintenance, and Fleet Services.  The department is responsible for the environmental management, design, construction, and maintenance of the street, water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure systems in the community. 

Position Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator provides pavement/asset management and project development while providing technical support in a variety of areas including: special assessments, financial assets reporting and records management associated with the Engineering Division. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  1. Manages the Department’s pavement management system, coordinates projects with other Public Works divisions for efficient scheduling, and develops a system of pavement/asset records management that includes outreach to and input from other divisions or departments to ensure records are kept up to-date as projects occur.
  2. Performs long term planning and budgeting of pavement management projects using the City’s pavement management system and coordinates schedules with other Capital Improvement projects.
  3. Manages the special assessment process, legal descriptions/documents, and easement/right-of-way vacation process.
  4. Assists with municipal state aid system reports, council agenda items, and various engineering and financial reports.
  5. Provides higher level interface with other City departments and divisions relating to asset and records management.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, Applied Science or related field required. GIS/CAD experience or demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn GIS/CAD preferred.

Work Experience: 1-3 years of experience working in a civil/technical position or related project management role preferred.

Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.  Proficiency with other Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Access, Outlook), Laserfiche document management software, and specialized pavement management or asset management software preferred.  Knowledge of special assessment processes/statutes preferred.

Physical Requirements:  Physical efforts include mobility around an office environment; limited outdoor activities such as observing and navigating on, around and through public and private infrastructure (streets, utilities, buildings, etc.); meeting with property owners; and visiting construction sites, grading sites, and various environmental areas.  Mental efforts include the ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects and initiatives with frequent work interruptions or changes in priorities.

Working Conditions:  Most work involves a normal office environment.  However, several outdoor activities may occur where you are exposed to traffic impacts, construction and grading equipment, noise, dust, weather, etc. where safety equipment is required.
