Description:

PRINCIPAL PRODUCT DESIGNER (UX)

About us:

Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers. Join a world-class Product Design, UX Writing, Research and Accessibility team responsible for the human-centered design of our digital experiences (apps, website and in-store). We envision and create inspiring, impactful and well-crafted solutions that serve our guests, team members and business. Our promise is to serve all families through our digital experiences, inclusive of Black, Indigenous, people of color, people with disabilities, non-binary, and low-income guests.

About the job:

As a Principal Product Designer, you'll lead large-scale design projects that come to life on Target.com, Target apps, and more. This includes the creation of entirely new experiences, as well as improvement to existing ones. You'll be well-positioned to make an impact as a member of a nimble, friendly and high-performing team operating at the heart of Target's growing digital business.

In this role, you will lead, create and execute the user experience strategy and design deliverables for our ongoing relationship with our guests. You'll use your business savvy and influence to move the work forward with cross-functional partners. You're a strategic thinker who envisions impactful ways to solve guest problems using design thinking tools. You're a storyteller by nature, and you thrive on building relationships. You're an agent of change with a bias toward action.

You'll lead the end-to-end design process from strategy and ideation, through implementation and iteration. Day to day, you'll drive the discovery process, facilitate working sessions, generate new concepts and hypotheses, prototype, test, learn and pivot quickly to new directions. You'll contribute to design deliverables, including visual design and flows that are intuitive, elegant and provide value for our guests while accounting for a variety of scenarios. You'll advocate for consistency and restraint by actively utilizing and contributing to our design system, while constantly evaluating existing patterns and evolving them to an even better state.

You'll bring empathy and guest insights to every business problem. You'll identify opportunities for innovation and next-generation guest experiences. You'll help to define objectives and results with product, engineering and business partners. You'll push work forward with high standards and an approach that follows the voice of the guest. You'll mentor junior designers on craft, design thinking, and discovery.

You'll collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of UX designers, UX writers, engineers, product managers, accessibility consultants, data analysts and UX researchers. Through these partnerships, you'll leverage data and guest insights to inform design decisions. You'll participate in guest research and conduct your own in partnership with our UX research team. You'll partner with other teams across Target (apps, marketing, pricing & promotions, item, etc) to ensure cohesiveness in the guest experience.

You'll be the master of your own destiny in an environment that has strong support for work-life balance. We'll support you along the way with robust onboarding, as well as personal and career development, to help you grow as a strong Principal Product Designer. The exciting part of retail? It's always changing! Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.
