CLINICAL PHARMACIST

Position Description

This position is responsible to support initiatives related to formulary, drug utilization management and clinical program development and management. Responsibilities include day to day management of existing programs and the development, implementation and management of new programs focused on improving health, appropriate use and optimizing medication outcomes. Collaborate with UCare departments, our Pharmacy Benefit Management Company (PBM), and other external parties to ensure strategic goals related to UCare pharmacy services are met.

• Complete clinical review of medical drug prior authorizations and appeals for Medicare Part D, State Public Programs and Health Exchange membership. Assist with identifying and recommending efficiencies in the administration of processes.

• Conduct retrospective safety and utilization reviews (e.g. opioids) in accordance with UCare protocols and/or regulatory requirements.

• Support development and maintenance of UCare formularies, drug management strategies, pharmacy clinical programs and integrated health improvement initiatives.

• Perform outreach to members and/or providers to educate on drug therapy or promote a UCare pharmacy initiative.

• Proactively monitor pharmaceutical industry developments, UCare financial and utilization data, and regulatory guidance to identify emerging trends and inform management strategies.

• Provide oversight of clinical services and programs delegated to PBM, and assist with audits and other regulatory, contractual and operational PBM matters.

• Complete and present new drug reviews, UM evaluation and analysis and P&T content development at UCare P&T meetings.

• Support quality program initiatives (e.g. Stars, HEDIS, etc.) surrounding medication utilization.

• Mentor and educate pharmacy rotation students on managed care principles and guide them in completing various projects

• Other projects and duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD required. Current and unrestricted Minnesota pharmacy licensure required.

Required Experience

Three years of clinical pharmacy practice experience. Experience included quality improvement, utilization review, risk management, and patient care. Knowledge and advocacy of managed care principles and the primary care model.
Preferred Experience

Two years of experience in managed care pharmacy environment. Experience with practice guidelines, pharmacy claim data analysis, Medicare Part D, Medicaid and geriatric pharmacy principles. Specialty pharmacy experience.
