Description:
Role Summary: This role will spend roughly 50% of the time leading the development & implementation of the Home OB portfolio 3 year roadmap and 50% of the time onboarding, shadowing, and supporting the Director of Buying job at Target. The role will work closely with and report directly to the SVP, Merchandising Home, and it is responsible for:

Playing "quarterback" for Home OB Portfolio Mgmt. and Strategy Roadmapping over a 3 year horizon inclusive of:
  • Managing cross-pyramid projects, coordinating and executing the pyramid strategy and agenda to ensure efficient operations - inclusive of leading the merchandising components of our owned brand portfolio roadmap
  • Partnering with the owned brand management team, merchandising captains and CFT partners to develop a 3 year strategy and implementation roadmap that is connected and aligned upon by all critical parties
  • Keeping the SVP and Divisionals informed of progress on portfolio roadmap, taking partners when necessary but ensuring we make progress on our long term strategic vision inclusive of our financial guardrails


As the person onboards to a Merch Director of Buying, you will shadow pre-determined leaders in Home pyramid while determining the right areas to provide actual support. Some examples include but are not limited to:
  • Strategy development and buying execution and implementation.
  • Create omni-channel growth by planning profitable and locally relevant assortments using your grasp of guest shopping behavior, assortment requirements and competitors
  • Working with a diverse set of vendors to choose the best product mix, both instore and online. You will influence and negotiate with vendors to achieve results and identify gaps and opportunities. Through cross- functional collaboration, instinct and creativity, you will be the expert on the guest, the market and the competition
  • Lead cross functional teams to drive category results while managing progress towards sales and margin goals translating these goals into actionable strategies - inclusive of the pricing & promotions center of excellence, Planning, Site Merchandising, Design, Sourcing, Visual Merchandising
  • Directly lead associate buyers, senior merchandise specialists ensuring career development and planning is a priority for all team members

Qualifications:
  • College degree combined with 8+ years corporate general management experience
  • Working knowledge of merchandising industry, either worked in or supported Merchandising businesses
  • Experience managing large or complex projects and comfort with ambiguity
  • Solid quantitative skills, coupled with broad business acumen.
