PRINCIPAL ACTUARIAL ANALYST

Position Description

This position is responsible to provide actuarial analysis to support the pricing and analytics for Medicare Advantage products. Support UCare's Medicare Part C Bidding processes, assumption development, manual rate support/development and peer review for both UCare and partner plan suites of products. Evaluate growth opportunities and provide strategic recommendations for Medicare, Medicaid and Individual products. Review competitive landscape and develop appropriate benchmarks for comparison to UCare market and potential new business opportunities. Conduct financial analysis, including data reconciliation, pricing model updates/maintenance, and projection assumptions.

• Support the annual CMS Part C Bidding processes including manual rate selection, adjustment and development, Part C projection factor development, model validation and peer review. Maintain familiarity with Part C program and legislative changes. Collaborate closely with actuarial staff and other key stakeholders within the organization to produce a competitive product portfolio that aligns with strategic priorities.

• Support Individual ACA rate filing including base data collection, model maintenance and projection factor development. Collaborate with the Product team to model and evaluate strategic priorities.

• Review and summarize competitive landscape for Medicare and Individual products and use this knowledge to propose benefit design recommendations. Review publicly available data and develop appropriate benchmarks to evaluate UCare's performance across a myriad of measures.

• Research social determinants of health and their effect on UCare's Medicaid and Special Needs populations.

• Continue to grow and learn new programming skills that can be applied to provide ongoing financial analysis and support to management decision making, internal/external reporting, and ongoing financial/data support to internal customers

• Represent Health Care Economics on UCare cross-departmental projects as an active contributor and supporting resource.

• Maintain appropriate documentation for departmental processes.

• Ad hoc analysis and backup support as needed.

• Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education

B.S. in Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or related field strongly preferred; demonstrated programming/financial analysis experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Required Experience

Five years of health industry experience. Intermediate to advanced skills using Excel and SQL. Medicare Part C bidding experience. At least four completed SOA exams.

Preferred Experience

Demonstrated ability to independently address open-ended business questions and produce tangible results.
