Liquor Store Operations

The Liquor Store Operations generate nearly $10 million in sales annually providing about $1 million in profits that go back to the City.  The profits generated by the liquor stores are used to fund several City projects including the pavement management program, facility maintenance and replacement of playground equipment.

Position Responsibilities

The Liquor Store Manager is responsible for ensuring smooth operations of an assigned store and serving the community in an effective, efficient, and customer-friendly manner. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  1. Develops short and long term plans to ensure smooth operations including preparing and coordinating employee work schedules, overseeing store merchandising and inventory, and preparing product orders in accordance with store analysis and needs.
  2. Provides direction to all full-time non-exempt staff to ensure efficient, polite, and complete services to the public; develop, establish and implement plans, policies, procedures and measurement tools to ensure that those standards are continually met or exceeded.
  3. Recruits, manages and develops staff by establishing goals and objectives, providing effective feedback and development opportunities, ensuring employees receive proper on-the-job training, and managing performance.
  4. Prepares, analyzes, and administers the assigned liquor store segment of the finance budget; monitor expenses and drive cost effective plans.
  5. Performs all record keeping, bookkeeping, reporting, banking and accounting procedures necessary for efficient operation of store; performs selling, cash register, and stocking duties; other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Work Experience:  Minimum of three years’ experience managing a retail store (including supervising employees) required; experience in retail liquor store management, recruitment of employees, coaching and training preferred, and profit and loss analytic reporting preferred.

Technical Skills Knowledge of principles and practices of retail store sales, inventory, purchasing, merchandising, management and supervision required.

Physical Effort: This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis and the ability to bend/stand/reach is also required.

Working Conditions: Most work is performed in a normal retail floor environment. Occasionally drives to other liquor stores to help out or to attend off-site meetings. Position may involve calming emotionally charged individuals.
