Description:
We are looking for highly motivated engineering professionals who can empathize with individuals and teams and raise their development, operations and problem-solving skills. As an Engineering Technical Coach, you are a software developer with a passion for teaching. You love keeping abreast of the latest industry trends and use them to help you and those around you innovate. You have leadership qualities, good judgment, and clear communication skills.

As a Sr Engineer - Engineering Technical Coach on the Ryse coaching team, you will:

• Utilize your deep understanding in multiple engineering skills relevant to Target in order to elevate the teams and individuals you coach

• Promote a learning culture and develop communities around given technologies that enable the community to help each other

• Help engineers identify gaps in their product's observability and advise on ways to fill them.

• Advocate for Target's preferred development processes and best practices; coach teams to identify deficiencies and improve upon them

• Coach, guide, or even drive teams to technical solutions that are in line the Target Platform guidance, are scalable and resilient

• Recognize when a team is applying the preferred architectural strategy for their application and when not; guiding, or even driving, the team to build in support of the preferred architectural strategy

• Assist teams with the decision-making process of applying an approved technology or choose to explore a technology new to Target

• Build relationships that connect the coaching team to other teams across the enterprise to build a network of partners and resources

• Create new training material, coaching techniques and patterns as well as facilitate sessions for advancing technical learning in the organization

About you:
• 3+ years of software development experience

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of one or more of Target's preferred programming languages (Java/Kotlin/Groovy, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Golang or Scala)
• Experience utilizing CI/CD technologies (Git, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins/Drone/Vela)

• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems

• Resolves routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance
• Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate priorities
• Clearly communicates Product, Agile and Engineering concepts to peers, partners, and clients
• Influences and applies data standards, policies, and procedures
• Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

• Passion for teaching and mentoring teams and individuals

• Able to articulate and support your opinions/stance, but also able to listen and be flexible

Desired Qualifications:

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent

• Extensive experience working in an Agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)

• Working with test-driven development and software test automation

• Working experience with building and consuming RESTful micro-services and/or ReactJS user interfaces

• Working experience with operating applications in support of a distributed microservices architecture

• Familiarity with definition and adoption of SLIs/SLOs/SLAs

• Experience with tools and techniques for monitoring and creating smart alerts that help discover issues/failures in a timely manner

• Experience with analyzing metrics and preventing outages/incidents
