Description:
Director Store Operations - Labor Engineering & Workforce Management

Classification: Exempt

Date: 2/2021

About Us:

Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers. Right on pace with Target's distinctive retail brand, Target Store Operations is continuing to transform the way it operates. Here, your work directly supports the store mission to be the Guest's favorite through successfully developing and communicating the processes for operations, style and experience, new structures, new operating models and new technology, and utilizing workforce management activities for our 1,900 locations nationwide.

Are you a customer service enthusiast who can actively listen to many points of view and then visualize how they'll perform when operationalized in a store? Are you happy to partner with leaders as well as field team members who are often the experts on how well a process is working? Can you creatively envision more efficient processes and how they'll deliver a better experience for guests and team members? Do you possess the innovative mindset to question the status quo, and the confidence to work under varying degrees of ambiguity and well-informed experimentation? Then you'll have success on one of our dynamic teams. A role with Process Operations means a big opportunity to leverage operational experience, process design and insights to create strategies that fuel processes like inventory replenishment, setting product, signing, pricing and backroom organization keeping stores in stock to drive guest engagement by ensuring they find what they are looking for (and more).

As the Director of Labor Engineering in Store Operations you will lead the stores workforce and labor strategy with continued emphasis on driving efficiency in order to fuel the Guest experience in Target Stores - a critical component of Target's Stores strategy. As you drive to achieve that goal you will create strong partnerships within Stores Operations and across Target to understand, analyze, balance and optimize workload throughout Target Stores. You will lead, develop and set the vision for a team of seasoned labor engineers and industrial engineers who, collectively, have responsibility for the portfolio of Labor Standards that describes workload in Target Stores. You will utilize the well-formed labor standards to achieve several critical enterprise strategies. First, you will evolve the payroll planning process in Stores from a sales based methodology to a workload based methodology to ensure that Target is able to schedule the right work, in the right place at the right time. Next, you will create and utilize an understanding of forecasted Stores workload in relation to Stores capacity for the purpose of prioritizing workload across the retail calendar. You will also create a store specific staffing strategy, in close partnership with HR, to ensure that Target is able to provide non-exempt Team Members with a stable base of scheduled hours. Finally, you will partner closely with the product and technology owners to ensure that the labor model is implemented accurately in the scheduling strategy and system. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About You:
  • 4 year college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 7-10 years of experience in an operational environment; retail or supply chain experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of team leadership experience; engineering, finance or data analysis leadership preferred
  • Experience creating and leveraging data analysis techniques and tools to inform business decisions
  • Ability to form relationships and influence key stakeholders, leaders, and peers
  • Comfortable in ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment
  • Proven ability to develop and implement large scale strategies
  • Experience in Organizational Change Management (OCM) & Agile Mindset
