Job Description Job Summary:   The Manager Benefits is responsible for managing the benefits function for the SMSC and its Enterprises. The Manager Benefits owns the overall strategy, execution and communication & engagement plan for benefits function. Plans, develops and implements new and revised short-term and long-term benefit and retirement programs, policies and procedures to align with the enterprise strategic initiatives and competitive practices. This leader is responsible for researching and recommending best practices in benefit plan design, analyzing the right benefit and retirement plans that align with the SMSC culture. The position partners with leadership across the enterprise to execute all aspects of benefits and retirement programs and executing efficiencies across vendor relationships. This position will partner with SMSC Wellness Administrator and SMSC benefit brokers on benefit and retirement plans and program development and the preparation of documents for business council and board of directors approval. This position is also responsible for ensuring that company benefit and retirement programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and processes. This position has a strong focus on internal communications and engagement with our employees and team members. Providing compelling and educational information so our team members and employees fully understand and utilize the programs and opportunities available to them through our benefit and wellness plans.   Budget/Asset Responsibilities:   Provides input to the Director of HR Services for budget planning. Manages areas of assigned responsibility within budgeting and business plan guidelines. In conjunction with the Director of HR Services, possibly an outside broker, researches and recommends cost-effective benefit programs that meet the needs of the enterprise, team members and employees.   Job Duties:
  1. Lead the benefit center of excellence (COE) and serve as a benefit subject matter expert (SME) in all areas of benefits for the HR team and leaders.
  2. Collaborates in the design, implementation, and administration of company health and welfare programs in partnership with external vendors and third-party administrators. Lead the development, implementation and administration of benefit programs, policies, procedures, and training materials.
  3. Manage the annual benefits open enrollment process and serve as the point of contact for up-to-date compliance calendar and required compliance filings.
  4. Assists and may lead in the development, recommendation and implementation of new or revised health, welfare, and retirement benefit programs and leave of absence programs and policies.
  5. Assists in the development of the overall market-competitive benefit strategy and philosophy to help drive employee engagement. Ensure benefit programs remain competitive and conform to the benefit philosophy and strategy. Partner with benefit broker to analyze benefit offerings to ensure their competitiveness with similar organizations and relevancy for team members and employees
  6. Participate in various benefits-related projects which involve revision, development and/or re-design of existing benefit programs. Takes a leadership role in benefit projects and develops project plans which includes required deliverables, timelines and involvement of team members. High-level project management, partnering with appropriate internal and external resources, and ensuring that projects are on-time and on-budget, while achieving desired goals and objectives.
  7. Build relationships and partner with SMSC Wellness Administrator and SMSC benefit brokers on benefit and retirement plans and program development and the preparation of documents for business council and board approval.
  8. Coordinate with broker and vendors on renewals, RFPs, benchmarking and survey participation.
  9. Manage the annual discrimination tests of 401(k) and health benefits as well as form 5500 preparations.
  10. Collaborates in the design and implementation of new hire education and open enrollment materials related to all benefits programs and is responsible for team member and employee benefit communications. Develops internal training programs that promote education and compliance. Resolves team member and employee questions and problems by interpreting benefit policies and procedures.
  11. Identify emerging benefits best practices and offerings that would increase the competitiveness of our benefits package to meet the needs of our growing workforce. Gather and analyze benefit benchmarking data and make recommendations based on trends.
  12. Partners with the HRIS team to ensure the accurate and timely set up of benefit deductions and other benefit information within the HRIS and Payroll system. Works to ensure timely and meaningful analysis occurs, and results are reported to management for use in making decisions related to the benefits programs.
  13. Ensures benefit programs are administered in compliance with established SMSC guidelines, processes, procedures and controls and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Performs regular internal audits. Oversee and administer federal and state requirements and compliance reporting, keeping up to date on changing laws and reporting requirements related to benefits.
  14. Own the assessment, implementation and ongoing use of benefits software and data. Support the implementation of new benefit modules within HRIS platform.
  15. Collaborates with cross-functional teams including Human Resources, Finance and IT on any benefit program design, program set-up and configuration, financial budgeting, or system updates.
  16. Develop, coach and mentor direct reports and continually look for and implement process improvements, efficiencies, and ways to streamline work.
  17. Assist in the development of benefit materials for CEO and Board approval.
Days Monday - Friday Hiring Rate or Hiring Range 1. Based on Qualifications Requirements Reflects MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATION and EXPERIENCE required in order to meet the expectations of this job:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive benefits management, administration, and leave of absence administration experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in a leadership capacity in a corporate benefits role.
  • Strong understanding of process improvement methodology. Experience with transformational and/or process improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge of all relevant federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits programs and Human Resources, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in written and verbal formats.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous requests.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices benefit programs, regulations and processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook. Strong HRIS systems knowledge preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Must be customer service oriented with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn.
  • Ability to set priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, multi-project environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-discipline human resources team.
  • Basic understanding of the gaming industry preferred.
