CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND GENERAL MANAGER

Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a member-owned G&T cooperative, is seeking candidates for the position of CEO and General Manager.

Basin Electric, headquartered in Bismarck, ND, generates and transmits wholesale bulk electric power, primarily to 141 member rural electric systems located in nine states.

• Assets of $7.6 billion
• Consolidated annual gross revenue of $1.8 billion
• Member systems distributing electricity to approximately 3 million consumers
• 1,850 employees
• Owns over 4,200 megawatts and operates over 5,100 megawatts winter generating capability
• Maintains more than 2,500 miles of transmission lines and infrastructure

Basin Electric’s largest subsidiary, Dakota Gasification Company, is a for-profit subsidiary that owns and operates the Great Plains Synfuels plant near Beulah, North Dakota. The Synfuels Plant gasifies lignite coal to produce pipeline quality synthetic natural gas. In addition, Dakota Gas produces petrochemicals, rare gases and fertilizer products.

Applicants for this position must demonstrate a successful career history of executive leadership in a complex and changing business environment; deep and broad knowledge of the energy sector; excellent communication skills, and the highest level of professional integrity. The successful candidate, as a national leader in the American power industry, must have the ability to effectively interact with diverse audiences both internal and external to the organization. The Board of Directors is seeking candidates for this position who possess appropriate experience and skills to address strategy and vision, operational safety, effectiveness and efficiency, financial management, and the highest degree of leadership and management expertise. Additionally, this position requires familiarity with and effective vision for the future of the electric generating and transmission industry and Basin Electric’s related subsidiaries, and the economy in the cooperative’s service area. Extensive travel by air and vehicle is required.
