Director of Counseling Center

Anticipated start date: July 1, 2021

The Director of the Counseling Center is responsible for providing exemplary leadership and overseeing all operations and staff of the Counseling Center, including supervision of licensed therapists, university services associates, student workers, and graduate interns. The Director is responsible for the coordination of clinical mental health services; managing various coordinator roles in the center; developing and implementing outreach programs; responding to crisis situations; developing and maintaining strong relationships within and outside of the campus; managing the annual budget and providing counseling services to Stout students. The Director ensures that the Center adheres to state and federal law, accreditation standards, and professional codes of ethics applicable to the provision of mental health services. The Director monitors local and national trends and implements innovations in clinical service and outreach programming to respond to the diverse and changing needs of students. The Director of the Counseling Center reports directly to the Associate Dean of Students. Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work or other related field.
  • Licensed or license eligible in Wisconsin.
  • Five years post-degree experience in a mental health setting, with at least two years of experience as a clinical and/or administrative supervisor.
  • Experience managing student crisis situations and complex mental health presentations.

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology, or closely related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a university counseling center, including service as either Director, Interim Director, Associate or Assistant Director
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and the ability to effectively understand the impact of culturally competent counseling on retention and student success.
  • Administrative experience including budget management.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessment with the ability to analyze data to inform decisions.
  • Demonstrated competence in providing quality training programs for various levels of staff and students, especially as it relates to student behavioral health, classroom management and crisis response.
  • Well-developed communication and public relations skills including the ability to engage effectively with faculty, students, families, and their representatives.
