JOB SUMMARY:

This employee works with direction from an engineer, designer, or prototype technician. He or she uses computer aided design (CAD) equipment to create drawings and illustrations of machine components, electronic assemblies, enclosures, wire harnesses and labels. He or she may create or modify model files, sketches, parts book illustrations, and bills of material and perform other duties as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Collect and analyze technical information from a variety of sources, including:

    • Conversations with engineers, designers, technicians, manufacturing, suppliers, etc.

    • Technical documents.

    • Operation of equipment and SAP software.

  • Use CAD software to create drawings and illustrations of components and systems.

  • Meet or exceed typical production, quality, and safety expectations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment most of the time with regular trips to the shop and outside work.

  • Shop and outdoor environments include physical hazards such as utilities (typically gas, electric, and water lines), powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, and moving machinery. Outdoor environment includes work in all kinds of weather while operating and demonstrating machinery and construction site conditions such as open excavations, unimproved land, uncompleted structures, etc.

  • Working with hazardous materials, including fuels, lubricants, solvents, and batteries.

  • Normal 8-hour work day, occasional workdays of up to 10 hours or more.

  • Occasional overnight travel.

  • Rapidly changing workload, priorities, demands, schedules, and deadlines.

  • Regular, continuous use of a personal computer.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have an associate degree in Drafting Technology or Engineering Technology, or the equivalent in formal post-high school training and experience.

  • Demonstrate appropriate CAD skills, including solid modeling (SolidWorks experience preferred).

  • Have knowledge in drafting practices and the application of ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerance standard or knowledge of a similar standard.

  • SAP experience preferred (especially as part of the ECO process)

  • Demonstrate excellent skills in organizing and prioritizing work in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Have appropriate reading and clerical skills.

  • Work well with others in a team setting.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge (or willingness and ability to learn) of PC based CMW business tools including word processing, database, CAD, and others as required.

  • Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality.
