As a Sr. Engineering Manager, you will lead an engineering team in an agile environment building solutions. Target's Storage as a Service group is part of Technology Engineering within Target Tech. We deliver high performance storage solutions for the enterprise at a multi-petabyte scale and are constantly automating our provisioning methods while adding new products and services. As the leader of the Storage team, you are responsible for trying new hardware and storage tech, reducing costs and operational overhead. You will manage the lifecycle of all things storage hardware related.

  • Manage overall software development cycle, driving best practices and ensuring development of high quality code for common assets and framework components.
  • Build and lead a team of high caliber software development engineers
  • Architect and develop the best technical design and approach
  • Manage and execute against project/agile plans and set deadlines
  • Drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment
  • Manage cross-product technical dependencies and drive resolutions to conflicts
  • Advocate for technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes and guiding values of the domain architecture
  • Ensure all code adheres to all development & security standards
  • Manage a broad set of stakeholders across engineering, product and process organizations


Requirements:
  • 8+ years of engineering (software development) experience. Experience with at least one full cycle implementation from requirement to production. Experience building robust and scalable infrastructure provisioning
  • Develop and gain insight into consumer requirements and storage architecture and participate in changes to accelerate feature development and improve the quality, reliability and performance of services leveraging a site reliability mindset
  • 1+ years of managing software development teams with a strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional projects
  • Experience with test-driven development and software test automation
  • Strong sense of ownership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to variety of audiences

Desired Qualifications:
  • BS degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Extensive experience working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)
  • Awareness of new and emerging technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrating technical leadership
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient with an object-oriented language (e.g Java)
  • Experience with frameworks like Spring Boot, Micronaut, Ratpack, etc.
  • Computer Science foundational knowledge including competencies working with design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
  • Hands on experience building scalable REST APIs
  • Knowledge of microservice design patterns
  • Experience load testing and performance tuning
  • Experience automated testing and proficient with a testing framework (e.g. Spock, JUnit, Jest)
  • Experience working on projects orchestrating containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Exposure to DevOps tools, processes, and culture (e.g. Spinnaker, Drone, Jenkins, Git, etc.)
  • Experience working with server operating systems (linux, SSH, shells, KVirt, VMWare, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), network (firewalls, port communication, DNS, load balancing, etc.), database (PostGres, MySQL, Redis, etc.), storage hardware and attachment protocols (SCSI, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, CIFS)
  • Contributing back to the Open Source community is desirable


This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $97,600 to $175,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
