JOB POSITION: Senior Engineering Manager

LOCATION: 1000 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403

DUTIES: Lead an engineering team of software engineers in an agile environment architecting and building new APIs, computer applications, and software system integrations; plan, direct, and manage the overall software development cycle while building and implementing high-performance and scalable server-side computer applications; build and lead a team of high-caliber software development engineers to effectively deliver commercially valuable software while being sensitive to financial, timing, and resource constraints; perform managerial oversight of team members (monitoring, setting deadlines, performance reviews) to ensure high levels of professional performance; manage and execute within parameters set by project and agile plans to ensure adherence to Target's standardized development procedures; oversee resolution of technology roadblocks occurring during the creation of new software deliverables, including those related to coding, infrastructure, software build, and deployment; ensure code created by other engineers adheres to Target's development and security standards; oversee test-driven development and software test automation to ensure compliance with software development best practices in these areas; research, architect, and develop the best retail/ecommerce software technical design and approach to optimize the commercial value of cutting-edge software deliverables; manage cross-product technical dependencies to ensure new software effectively integrates into existing Target and related vendor systems, as needed, without disrupting existing operations; research optimal technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes, and guiding values of Target's domain architecture and serve as an internal advocate for them to make sure they are integrated effectively into software deliverables; collaborate with product teams across Target to provide subject matter expertise on retail software and receive feedback on potential software improvements to inform ongoing projects and catalyze new ones; analyze this feedback to recommend possible upgrades for senior Target executives to consider, including the costs and benefits of any potential upgrades; and determine Target's short- and long-term personnel needs in the department and make managerial recommendations regarding hiring additional software engineers. REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and at least eight (8) years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience in software development (any title) including at least five (5) years performing analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise scale systems, developing functional and technical designs, providing technical leadership and mentoring junior/subordinate developers, automating systems development, and using test-driven development (TDD), Java, J2EE, UML, HTML, XML, JavaScript, JDBC, JUnit, Spring, REST Web Services, Gradle, Agile, and Groovy.
