Director, Transportation and Global Trade Compliance
Lead the transportation and global trade compliance function to include contracting, execution, and performance of all inbound, interplant, and outbound freight as well as ensuing trade compliance accuracy and consistency. Responsible for establishing strategies, plans and processes to ensure the Company meets compliance standards, delivering cost savings, elevated customer service performance, and strengthening the effectiveness of compliance and transportation relationships with internal and external customers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead Toro transportation services to include carrier selection, performance levels and cost management for all modes; domestic and international ensuring adherence to all transportation regulatory laws and guidelines
Oversight for Northern and Southern U.S. border transportation needs
Ensure trade compliance adherence and the maintenance of participating trade programs
Lead selection process and/or maintenance of tools and technology needed to tender freight, provide in-transit visibility, assist with classification, provide RPS and assist with freight payment and audit
Update business partners and senior leaders with industry trends – operational & financial
Communicate global trade implications based on country of origin and tariff rules and regulations to business partners and senior leaders
Provide financial guidance on transportation & trade costs to the organization during the planning process and throughout the year
Introduce and promote best practices related to transportation and global trade compliance
Partner with key stakeholders including manufacturing, sourcing, and the commercial teams to drive continuous improvement and provide the highest level of service at a competitive price
Advance the services provided by the transportation team and the global trade team via the introduction of new technology and 3rd party partnerships
Leverage and expand upon key metrics that provide the organization with visibility into carrier performance & costs, sourcing and trade implications
Routinely assess network design and financial health of the network
Partner with Product Development (New & Current) to ensure compliance with all customs requirements
All other tasks and projects as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
Ten (10) or more years’ progressive experience in Transportation, Logistics, and/or Supply Chain management with multiple locations and a demonstrated understanding of end-to-end supply chain strategy
Adept at negotiating carrier, customer brokers and logistics provider contracts
Demonstrated proficiency in managing Logistics Operations in a highly seasonal / variable volume business
Direct experience with SAP, Mercury Gate, and / or other enterprise systems is required.
Strong project management skills
Excellent analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to analyze multifaceted, complex situations, problems, and concepts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
Highly self-motivated and directed, able to work well under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple initiatives concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to be flexible, adaptable, and change priorities and direction as needed, allowing for optimum effectiveness
Ability to maintain composure during high-stress situations and maintain focus on ultimate objectives
Typical office environment as it pertains to lighting, temperature, and noise level when in administrative / operations offices.
Able to travel both domestically and internationally, approximately 15 -20%.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse, and to handle other computer components.
