Job Details

The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General is accepting applications from paralegals who have the professionalism, capabilities, and drive to perform the highest quality work on behalf of the people of Minnesota.  The selected candidate will work in the State Agencies Division.

Requirements.  Applicants should have strong research and analytical abilities, attention to detail, good judgment and character, and a strong work ethic.  The candidate should be a team player, willing to work with a variety of colleagues and clients to complete litigation tasks.  The position requires a paralegal who is highly organized, careful in handling sensitive information, and able to manage time effectively between several competing tasks.  Qualified applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience working in a litigation setting as a paralegal and a certificate in paralegal studies (or an equivalent).  Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in paralegal or legal studies.  Experience with E-Discovery software (such as Everlaw) is also preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities.  The Office represents the State of Minnesota and its agencies on important constitutional, statutory, and administrative law matters.  Our paralegals perform meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of Minnesotans.  A paralegal in the State Agencies Division will support attorneys who work on a wide variety of state and federal court litigation, as well as administrative proceedings for State agencies, including enforcement of labor, health, and safety laws.  Paralegals work as an integral part of litigation teams, drafting pleadings, performing legislative history research, assisting in discovery, and interviewing witnesses.

Why Work with Us.  The Office of Attorney General Keith Ellison — one of Minnesota’s largest public law offices — has a clear mission: we help Minnesotans afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect.  We are a dynamic group of dedicated professionals who could all work elsewhere but choose public service as a calling, and we are actively building an internal culture that supports that calling.

We offer a great benefits package!  The State of Minnesota offers a comprehensive benefits package including low cost medical and dental insurance, employer paid life insurance, short and long-term disability, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, tax-deferred compensation, generous vacation and sick leave, and 11 paid holidays each year.

Service with the Office may qualify applicants to have part of their student loans forgiven under the federal student loan forgiveness program that applies to state government employees.  (For more information, visit https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service).

ApplicationsPriority will be given to applications received by June 25, 2021, and we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.  You may express interest by submitting a cover letter, writing sample not to exceed five pages, and resume that includes your relevant experience and academic credentials, as follows:
