The Performance Engineering Team develops innovative ways to enable operational visibility into how applications and infrastructure are performing together. We are looking for highly motivated engineering professionals who can help connect the dots of end-to-end performance, enabling our product teams the insight and recommendations to maximize cross environmental performance. As a Lead Engineer in Performance Engineering, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Design, implement, and support tools aimed at defining key performance criteria
  • Set framework and direction for our API and tool development
  • Design and implement APIs and microservices that enable scalability of our offerings
  • Design and implement APIs and libraries that make it super simple for customers to consume our offerings
  • Design and implement monitors and dashboards for Performance Engineering
  • Design and implement a Performance product that works seamlessly across cloud, on premise, and distributed environments
  • Coach product teams on how to apply or leverage Performance offerings supporting their product so that they gain operational visibility to the health and performance of their product.
  • Evangelize an Agile mindset within Target
  • Continuously improve

About You:

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years total work experience
  • Has in-depth knowledge of state-of-the art engineering technical approaches in design, build, testing, debugging problems as required by domain
  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and deploying scalable APIs and microservices
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages (Golang, Bash, Python, Ruby, Java, etc)
  • Version control experience, preferably with Git
  • Exposure to either Cassandra clusters or MongoDB clusters
  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirements
  • Experience with Linux or Unix operating systems including Unix shell and scripting
  • Extensive experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience developing performance metrics within an application
  • Previous contributions to open-source projects
  • Experience integrating automated performance tests and monitoring solutions with a continuous integration and continuous deployment pipeline

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $105,800-$190,400.
