The Manager Environmental Health & Safety Manager will drive implementation of the Toro Safety Management System across the enterprise. The position will have responsibility for EHS programs, policies, and procedures and ensuring full compliance with all federal, state, local, and corporate EHS requirements while building a culture of EHS excellence. The EHS Program Manager must be highly skilled in interpreting and complying with regulations that apply across geographical regions, exhibit excellent leadership skills, and be able to work across functional boundaries to achieve a zero incident culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Align directly with Toro corporate EHS Director to develop and implement the Toro Safety Management System across the enterprise employing proactive safety management culture.

  • Responsible for full compliance with all Federal, State, Local, and Corporate EHS requirements including maintenance of EHS records, management of EHS statistics and reports.

  • Develop and implement a corporate EHS auditing program with the objective of identifying performance gaps and driving their closure.

  • Administers mandated programs including, but not limited to electrical safety, machine guarding, powered industrial vehicles, working from heights, hearing conservation, safety eye wear program, machine guarding, bloodborne pathogens, respiratory protection, hazard communications, RCRA, Storm Water, SARA 313, community right-to-know, and personal protective equipment.

  • Responsible for budgeting and spending relative to safety program development, implementation, and compliance.

  • Engage leadership across the organization to drive safety, health, and environmental excellence with the goal of a zero incident culture.

  • Establish and monitor annual EHS goals based on long range objectives.

  • Develop and maintain an EHS scorecard consistent with Toro requirements for each location supporting continuous improvement of EHS systems including: safety training, BBS observations, corrective action completion, compliance inspections, hazard identification, recordable incidents, lost-time incidents, incident rates, hours worked, work compensation incurred costs, and so on.

  • Develop company specific EHS training content for use in EHS program, policy, and procedure implementation and compliance.

  • Develop and implement incident investigation protocols utilizing systematic problem solving methods to establish root cause for incidents.

  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials and dangerous goods transportation training and certification requirements.

  • Lead Toro’s ergonomic program through training and education, team development, goal setting, performance measurement and resource acquisition.

  • Lead Toro’s safety data sheet (SDS) management program for items used in the manufacturing process to assure files are complete and up to date.

  • Drive Toro’s corrective action management program.

  • Interface with insurance brokers and in-house legal staff as required on miscellaneous health and safety matters

  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and operations functions on proper machine guarding implementation and usage.

  • Other duties a necessary and assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment with frequent work taking place on the factory floor, warehouse, and outside facility

  • Rapidly changing workloads and priorities with frequent deadlines

  • Work with confidential information

  • Regular use of personal protective equipment

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS Sciences, Engineering, or Engineering Technology (advanced degree and/or EHS certification are a plus)

  • 10+ years leading and building comprehensive safety programs with evidence of continuous improvement

  • Strong manufacturing business acumen and familiarity with various manufacturing processes

  • Excellent communication skills, both formal and informal, at all levels of the organization

  • Strong analytical, negotiating, presentation and facilitation skills

  • Ability to lead and direct teams and/or committees.

  • Ability to conceive, develop, and execute EHS related projects within a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of delivering hands on health, safety and environmental training.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and coordinate comprehensive health, safety, and environmental accident prevention programs.

  • Skilled in the standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Position is located in Bloomington, MN

  • Position reports to the Toro Corporate EHS Director located in Bloomington, MN

  • The position has one direct report

  • Travel requirements of approximately 25%.

  • Position is on first shift, but with the occasional requirement to work alternate shifts as needed for training, investigation, culture development, etc.
