Join the Agile and Engineering Enablement team as a Principal Engineer where you will set the technical strategy and direction for Engineering, Agile, and Product Tools at Target. The team blends ops and application development, with a wide variety of work and technologies leveraged.

About the Job:

The Agile & Engineering Enablement team provides the DevOps pipeline tools that support how thousands of engineers at Target collaborate, build, store, and deploy software. This includes the deployment and configuration of industry leading software for idea management (Jira, Confluence, Stack Overflow), chat (Slack), continuous integration (Vela, Jenkins), code repository (GitHub Enterprise), binary repository (Artifactory), and system configuration (Chef) tools. In addition, the team builds several custom products for continuous integration, front-end development, and analytics gathering. These tools are the cornerstone for all teams in Target Tech that enable them to deliver awesome products.

  • Be a strong advocate of Agile and DevOps practices
  • Guide teams on Agile and Product best practices
  • Influence company-wide technology usage and adoption
  • Develop tools used across the enterprise to make software engineering a joy
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance on a wide variety of topics
  • Participate in and lead innovative proof of concept projects
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across Target to set technical direction and drive lifecycle management decisions
  • Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and solution developing

Ideal Candidate Experience:
  • Product Focus: Works within Agile frameworks, customer-centric view
  • Influencing Teams and decisions; Mentoring other engineers
  • Programming language polyglot: Java, SQL, noSQL, Go, Python, Rust, and more
  • Building CI/CD pipelines: Vela, GitHub, Jenkins, Drone, and more
  • Testing Advocate: TDD, unit testing, functional testing, integration testing, common testing frameworks
  • Open/Inner Source: Working with existing community projects, starting new efforts
  • Linux administration: command line, network, automation
  • Security: static code analysis, PKI, firewalls
  • Cloud Experience: Kubernetes, OpenStack, GCP
  • Infrastructure as Code: Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Packer


Requirements:
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in technology development or services
  • 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and setting technical direction
  • Has demonstrated success in solving complex technical problems in more than one technical or functional area
  • Has proven leadership capabilities, the ability to influence others, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team player who understands concepts of teamwork and team effectiveness.
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
  • Has excellent planning and organizational skills.
