Major Functions:

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) plays a key Operations project management role in the development new product development projects. The AME acts as the voice for the manufacturing team during the process providing leadership in the DFMA process, plant and production tooling, quality, cost reduction activities, and product manufacturability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent Manufacturing as a core team member in new product development, product enhancement projects and on core business teams. Insure that all the proper Operations resources are involved in the project as necessary.

  • Liaison with timely communications between the project team and the Operations functions.

  • With the support of the Project Lead and plant ME, the AME plays a leadership role in DFMA activities during product development.

  • Assume primary responsibility for the manufacturability of the product. This includes ensuring manufacturing input from Toro plants and component suppliers (through NPD Sourcing) are considered by design early in a project.

  • Manage the product development tooling budget, including initial estimates, investment paperwork creation, and spending authorization.

  • Gather and assess data related to existing products as the basis for product improvements from Operations.

  • Provide leadership to explore and implement the use of new technologies, methodologies and materials that can be incorporated into the product design and manufacturing processes.

  • Co-manage the prototype manufacturing process by working with the manufacturing plant, Sourcing, Prototype Buyers, Sourcing, PDL (Product Development Lab) and Design Engineering.

  • Manage the make/buy process, and perform the make/buy decision.

  • Work with Sourcing, Manufacturing and others to develop a lead time schedule for all components that will assist the project team in developing a design release schedule.

  • Drive the development of manufacturing processes concurrent with the design development.

  • And other duties as requested.

Job Specifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or manufacturing technology is required. Master’s degree in engineering, manufacturing or business is desirable. Experience in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and/or project management in a manufacturing plant is preferred. 3-10 years’ experience. Strong skills in Microsoft Product systems, SAP skills a plus but can be trained.

Job Dimensions:

Works closely with Design Engineering, Plant Manufacturing Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Cost Estimating and Finance. Must develop a strong professional working relationship with all Toro manufacturing locations and develop an in depth knowledge base of all internal manufacturing capabilities. Must possess strong leadership, communication organizational skills and be able to handle multiple priorities. Must work well as a team member as well as a team leader. Up to 30% travel may be required.
