Director, Talent Development

Partners with Sr Director Talent Management & Development and HR leadership to build enterprise talent and leader development strategies for Target. In alignment with our culture and values framework, this role will set and deliver best-in-class team member and leader development curriculum and learning strategies to amplify growth.

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications:
  • Leads a team that sets, aligns, designs and delivers enterprise-wide talent development, leadership development and learning strategies, solutions, and tools and resources for Target.
  • Leverages deep understanding of learning and development coupled with human-centered design to ensure a holistic, integrated talent development strategy, roadmap, and work plan that aligns to Target's overall talent and business strategies.
  • Advocates and is a key leader on improving team member engagement and experiences through a focus on building better leaders across the enterprise.
  • Maintains Target's leading position in Talent Development practices through extensive external benchmarking, innovation, and understanding of evolving talent development approaches and landscape.


Lead team through strategy, visioning, planning, partnering, creating and recreating development strategies for team members and first time and mid-level leaders across the enterprise:

Set, align and deliver enterprise team member and leader development strategies and a best in class curriculum for Target:
  • You'll curate, assign and oversee leadership development programs and offerings for Target's team members across the enterprise and first time and mid-level leaders.
  • You'll partner extensively with talent management and executive development and learning teams to reimagine offerings and experiences, determine vendor partnerships and delivery vehicles that enable a high-performing team, future leadership pipeline, and continuous learning culture.
  • You'll play a key role in developing and adapting leadership solutions for the field and elevating self-serve/crowd-sourced learning content to support on-demand leader needs.


Lead, grow and develop the leadership development team:
  • Set and align priorities, coach and give real-time feedback to ensure high-performance and engagement.
  • Continue to strengthen the consultation, design and facilitation, and program management skills of your team.
  • Increase connections and build expertise across leaders and HR to accelerate Target's learning culture.


Accelerate capability development based on learnings and measurement:
  • You'll utilize proven methodologies for performing needs assessments, designing curriculum, and developing courses in partnership with Design, Strategy & Operations teams in Talent & Change (T&C).
  • You'll measure and assess the impact of leadership development initiatives and leverage data and insights to continuously enhance offerings to meet the changing needs of the business.


Build and maintain strong partnerships with business leaders, HR, T&C, and Talent Management:
  • You'll focus on making connections, consultation, problem solving, and alignment of strategies.
  • Ensure consistent communication and partnership across HR and key leaders in the business.
  • Act as Project Manager to bring different groups together and leverage experts to create effective products that drive maximum impact and ease.

About you:
  • Prior leadership experience in Talent Development, Leadership Development or Executive Development with a deep understanding of the approaches used to design and deliver effective enterprise-wide solutions in a complex environment
  • Experience in using human-centered design methodology to co-create solutions with end-users
  • Strength in building trusted relationships, collaborating across teams, and influencing partners - peers, senior leaders, and direct reports
  • Ability to flex communication given nuance of situations
  • Proven leadership and impact in designing equitable learning and development solutions as a way to democratize development for all
  • Energized by innovation, ambiguity, and the need to prioritize with the end-user in mind; listens and learns from external + internal insights
  • Easily sees connections and strategic opportunities - and knows how to balance those with delivering on current priorities
  • Previous retail experience preferred
  • Four-year degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development or relevant experience
  • 10+ years of work experience in Human Resources (leadership development, organizational development and learning, facilitation and training, talent management, etc)
